Ah, yes, the Hull accent. It was Florida and New Mexico for me, would not believe it was an an English accent. Save and except one. Which in keeping with the thread title, but extending it to the most bizarre answer to a question, the conversation went like this...

Me, chat chat blah blah how long have you lived in Florida?
Her, not very long. Which part of the East rRding are you from?
Me, (thinking the b********ds I worked with had set me up) Hull, why?
Her. oh, 20 odd miles from Pocklington.

It is a small world, she was indeed American, but the Pocklington bit stays in Florida.
 
True story.....1986..San Francisco
"Oh, my God, where are you from with that accent?"
"England."
"But where?"
"Hull."
He promptly handed me a free two day pass for the trams..
I never knew a Hull accent would come in so handy..

I once asked a very fit but thick barmaid if I could have a bag of beef flavoured pork scratchings. After about 10 minutes she came back to me and told me they had run out of them and asked if I wanted any other flavour. Ended up with pork flavour strangely.

This kind of thing seems to happen far more than it statistically should do.

We had it in Turkey long before Acun, a waiter was talking to us about football and we said we were City fans, he said his son supports Hull City. I was pretty sure he was confused but he pulls his phone out and he's got a picture of his kid in a City shirt. Still know the guy now, the kids a teenager and still convinced he's gonna come over and play for City at some point.

Had a similar thing in Santa Barbara last year too. Asked a question in tourist info and the American-sounding lady ignored our question and instead asked about our accents which ended up with her and my wife exchanging stories about growing up in Brough. Ridiculous.

I was chatting with a barman in my hotel in Jamaica and he asked what team I supported, he got very excited when I told him City. It turned out he'd played in midfield for Seba United under Whitmore and a lot of the lads dreamed of following in his footsteps.

I was in NYC in May....Got chatting to this lady in Tompkins Park, east Village ..She was convinced I was a Sweaty Sock.
Previous trip I was Irish (twice) but bloke in Central Park sitting next to me by the 'Imagine' sign got chatting and knew I was from Northern England. That was a first.

Circa 2009, on a Saturday during the halftimes at the football, we were discussing what was, at the time, the new Flat Earth theory. One guy asked about going "upside down and the world turning right way up." It went something like this:

"Well, Antarctica is at the bottom of the Earth"

"It's at the South Pole of the planet, yeah."

"Right, so if you went in a rocket and flew up..."

"What do you mean 'up'?!'"

"Because you're under the Earth, so you have to go up. So, at what point would the Earth appear beneath you, because you're not going to travel up are you? It must flip so that the ground is under you."

**stunned silence and worried glances exchanged**

Mercifully, the second half kicked off and the pizza arrived. I drew him a picture later.

Not really
Pre being a vegan we had chickens at home to lay eggs. All the cliches about bigger eggs and ‘yellower’ yolks are true.
So went to Asselby after some research
Got 3. Can’t remember the breeds but one red one, one white one and one black one.
Balti was probably the best layer, 2 a day sometimes, but Bhuna and Biriyani were all pretty consistent too :emoticon-0143-smirk

I can cconcur. Eggs are much better and the yolk is a lot tastier than shop bought.
Surprisingly cheap to keep. Cheaper than buying eggs in fact.
About 1 a day per chicken.
