Steve Bruce

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this , but Steve Bruce nearly never became our manager when he did. He insisted to Allams that Alex was to come along as well , only the Allams didn't want Alex here , but reluctantly gave in and allowed him to come , otherwise as I say SB may not be here .
Just another thing the Allams changed their minds on .

Erm. I'm not sure what you're on about. But previous to SB we had two other managers who Allam didn't back and didn't stand by. So saying he backs and stands by his managers is true for 1 one of the 3.

As above. It was only 3 years or so ago that it was all frees and loans.

Are you trying to be hard work on purpose?
What is the difference between the reigns of NP and NB compared to SB? Less interference and no AP in the case of the last one, coincidence?

You think AP prevented the Allams spending their own money?

The lack of respect for people like AP among some City fans, while brushing aside everything Allam has done, is so disappointing. When did he stop being a City legend?

No matter what anyone else say's the relationship isn't as close as we all imagine. SB has a greater level of management input than he will get at any PL club. I beg to differ fella, Quinn is a different world to the Allam family. He gave Bruce control of every footballing level at the club, allowed him to staff it out as he saw fit. Quinn also gave him full control of player recruitment allowing him to not only build his team but the chance to evolve it, to the point the Bruce with Quinns backing over saw around 166m worth of transfer of both incomings and outgoings to a total of 102 transfer deals on all levels in two and a half seasons.

This aint a slagging off, just saying he'll never ever be allowed the level of management input or have such a giving chairman as he had at Sunderland, not at Hull, not anywhere, ever. He ain't got the Holy Grail at Hull, He had it years ago and he lost it.

Some of our fans seem to think the Allams are the only owners who allow a manager full control and it doesn't happen elsewhere. As your example demonstrates, it really isn't that novel.

and sunderland done worse every season since bruce left

I think you're wrong, NP brought players in that weren't on a free or loans, Chezzy, Evans and Stewart to name but three.

As far as Barmby goes there was obviously some tension/bad blood/who knows what, between the Allam's, AP and Nick Barmby, it happens, and when it does you can hardly knock the owner for not wanting to spunk a wad of cash on players that come recommended by a management regime that they didn't totally trust. Well that was the impression I was left with anyway, if you have evidence to the contrary I'd love to hear it.

You're right, that's what happened, but Alllam then sacked him for not covering for him. It was also on his watch that NB was appointed before he subsequently decided he didn't trust him to run the team. Why appoint him then? Why let him take a pay cut and retire from playing to take the job if you don't trust him? It's not like our form between him taking over and that January window wasn't impressive. He also didn't back NP anything like he does Bruce. The players you mentioned were all £300k jobbies, as soon as Bruce came in we were splashing amounts in the millions on players.

It's led by excitement fella, no shame in it, big time for your club, how you feel was how we were feeling at the time with the likes of Bent coming in, I mean Keane spent a fair bit but nowt compared to Brucie's tenure, those two first summer windows were really exciting, then our better players were poached with offers we couldn't turn down(hendo), or petulant players having their heads turned with promises of riches and international appearances(Gyan & Bent) and unfortunately he could replace them quality, spent a lot trying. Ultimately Quinn had us spending way beyond our means(of Shorts money) and if not for Short sending Quinn packing and taking over as chairman and applying a strict hand financially we could been an administration club with a relegation.

We've only just recovered. Jack Rodwell is the first big Signing paid for by the clubs own revenue since Short Joined the club in 2008.

Not faulting Brucie like, Managers will take what they're given, who can blame them.

Hope your splashing out is going to followed by settled period of sensible spending. Otherwise Losing Brucie will be the least of your problems. I say the same to you as I say to the Newcastle fans. Fans should Find famous supporter to head a consortium and get a bid together for your club. Long term I think the Allams could potentially be devastating for you long term. You lot know your owner better than me though obviously. <ok>

Why appoint him then? Because he appeared to be the right candidate at the time of the vacancy I would guess.

They clearly did trust him at the time of the appointment, things obviously changed afterwards, Nick's hardly a shrinking violet, so if he took a pay cut to take the job, and you've offered no evidence to prove that was the case, then I'm sure he had good reason. Similarly if Nick decided to end his playing career to take up his first role in management I'd pretty much guess that it was his choice rather than being bullied into it by the Allam family.

It's not like our form between him taking over and that January window wasn't impressive. That's subjective.

Do you know for certain that NP requested the same amount of financial backing that has been afforded to SB, and was refused? Evidence?
