You can't make out as though that is not different to someone who has embraced the faith from actually gaining knowledge about it and familiarising themselves with the lifestyle. Whether you gave it a thought or not, there is no doubt you grew up with it in your life due to it being in your family and quite possibly community too.

    Majority like that

My family was not really Islamic but were Muslim, if that makes sense?

No one prayed etc but claimed to be muslim

I see what you are saying but I don't agree

For me it was no different than for my Mrs who is a convert/revert.

Harder for me as I had to let go of the Sufi barelwi vibes

Not really, I didn't mix much with my own community at all and lived a very western life style. I know it's not the same as a revert but I never came to the religion because of my connections at all, I floated with various religions before looking more in depth in to Islam and embracing fully.

A big glass of Irn Bru and a Spliff Fam.

Apart from that..you know how it is...whatever the women fancy making, I'm having. My fave dish has got to be a plate of savoury rice with lamb though, salad, mint/coriander yoghurt and a big jug of water.

There are lot of things people use religion to justify knowing clearly it's wrong and not from the religion at all...

Yeah I agree being born into it comes with it's own obstacles and cultural indoctrination but you can't under estimate the battles a revert/convert faces or may quite easily face.

Wasn't Malala shot specifically because of her and her father's views on education?
She was blogging for the BBC before it happened, wasn't she?
I don't know anything about her mother though, in all honesty.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali's disliked for a multitude of reasons.
It's mainly about her views on Islam and the people that she associates with, though.
Van Gogh's murder should've made that pretty clear.

This is true, but it's also quite easy to find vague passages that could refer to a lot of things.
People tend to find what they're looking for in a lot of religious texts.

Good job she's your Missus and not mine then. I'm partial to some Fish and Chips at least once during Ramadan

Depends if you want to take the official line or what was really happening with malala

Its actually more far ranging than her but also links into the whole Taliban against women's education too

I disagree, the onus is on the believers of what ever faith to seek and learn their religion, they verses from the Qur'an for instance are used to justify or used to beat muslims with by the media are clear in it's understanding, the difference being people don't read the verses before or after that particular verse but just that cherry picked one, if you see what I mean...

For instance the one about kill all non-muslims but they don't read the whole Suresh just the one verse.

    Context.
The problem is that it's often debatable and people will often claim unorthodox interpretations are true, if it suits them.
This is true of virtually all religions, of course.
