I do miss my single days sometimes like, it was a great time. The amount of student nurses where I lived at the time, no need for apps even if they existed back then.

The problem with the US is that the health care system is ****ed. If you've got the money you can get the best healthcare in the world, but if you are skint then you are just fodder. My friends in Ojai pay around $1000 pcm for basic health insurance, and even that doesn't cover a trip to the GP or basic meds. But would prevent them from getting a horrendous bill if they ever needed hospital treatment. I remember a mate of mine down in San Diego who was hosptialised with appendicitis, he spent one night in hospital and he got a $10k bill. He phoned up the hospital and insurance company and told them they were trying to rob him. They told him on the phone that if he paid $3k now on his credit card, it would be the end of the matter. So bascially they just make it up as they go along.

I pay more than that, but it covers a family of 5. We have a family deductible of $7500 (or $2500 for an individual family member) Once we pay that, insurance covers 70% of medical expenses. We hit the deductible in March for both of the last two years.

That's $7500 by March on top of $1600 a month fees. A well visit annual checkup can cost several hundred. I spend more on medical bills than I do food or housing. (And we don't have any major chronic conditions).

If my wife worked and we had separate insurance plans it would be a lot less, but family plans get pricey.
I probably spend about $30k a year just on medical stuff for the family in any given year.

You're not far wrong.

Medical facilities usually quadruple the price they expect to receive because insurance companies always negotiate them down.

Which is catastrophic for anyone without insurance because they don't have insurance to do the negotiating and end up being charged way more than the hospital even intended to milk them for in the first place.

I've never shaved my chest but I do trim my armpit hair down to nothing. <ok>

High humidity and most days being well above 30C, my deodorant needs to reach my skin, not my armpit hairs.

Dunc is just venting because everyone laughs at him when he goes for the little pink plastic coated dumbbell...right in the far end of the Dumbell rack.
