I'm sure I remember Gerrard (who missed that game) saying in an interview after, that come the world cup, England will match teams like Chile. Delusion!

 

What, by raising our game..? So Chile raises their own game and we're back to square one.

 

But they have B teams! How could a country with B teams possibly be going out in the group stage!

Strachan says that Spain's demise shows the rise of a new style of football that is played by Southampton, Atletico Madrid and Chile.

 

Plus we're seeing more teams use wing backs in the international game, never seen so many teams use 5 at the back for a world cup.

 

Hoddle says that Lallana should start against Uruguay instead of Henderson.

 

Perhaps we should go back to basics and play the Pyramid formation from the 19th century - Chile were almost there!

Dammit..! Dammit..! Dammit..! I've wanted someone to say this and blowed if I don't go and miss the only person likely to do it [WGS doesn't cosy upto glamour clubs].

 

So Spain who had three club teams in this season's European finals have gone out!! How ironic!!!!

I think it's more that Lineker was right. Tiki-Taka doesn't work now. teams are pressing much higher and not allowing it. More goals are being scored from counters and interceptions now than 2 minutes of boring boring Spain/Barcelona sideways nothingness. Exciting football has returned.

 

Have to say that, as a non-purist these days I am so glad, if it proves to be true.

 

Let's hope that's still an 'is' and not a 'was' when it comes to us next season!
