I agree with the first bit at least anyway.....
Why do it? Think logically for a second here, did us City fans sing any louder cause of it yesterday? No. Did it create an up lifting atmosphere? No. Did it distract the attention from a great away performance away from the pitch and onto something stupid? Yes.
To me i can't see why you would want to let someone throw something onto the pitch, i just don't get it. I am all for singing during a game, i love a great atmosphere as much as a great match but i just can't see why that really helped.
If someone can prove a logical arguement for it of course i will admit i am wrong. I just can't see the logic behind it.
