He could have said "I have a two year contract with Watford FC which of course I intend to honour", simple really.
But he had no need to say that as it is exactly what he has been doing. Actions speak louder than words - in this case no action speaks loudest of all.He has been crystal clear all along. Any approach for his services is nothing to do with him unless and until WFC's management give Everton permission to speak to him. It might well be that he very much wanted to speak to Everton - an entirely natural and reasonable position to adopt if he so wishes.Permission wasn't given for Everton to approach him. Simple really.
With, unfortunately, a large number of inane comments underneath. The number of people who apparently hang on every word from the likes of Merson & Samuels really surprises me.
Wrong. He had plenty of opportunity to kill the story when it first arose. He could have set a good example to his players by stating contracts are there for a purpose and should be honoured especially after such a shot time. I'm sure the board are disappointed he did not back their decision firmly. I think Merson's prediction may well come true, Silva joining Everton in the summer if they continue with Unsworth as a temporary manager till then, although they may not want to risk relegation. I would assume most people would be increasingly concerned about Silva's commitment, he has had many short term appointments.
Everton approached the Watford board for permission to speak to him, they denied contact. He then should have said 'I'm flattered by the approach from Everton, such a big club, but I'm contracted to WFC, I only signed a contract recently and I am excited by the project at Watford. Naturally I'm ambitious but my focus is solely on Watford football club at the moment"
Wrong. He is perfectly entitled to hold a private view that he would like to discuss an approach from Everton-but quite correctly indicated it is up to the board ofWatcord. You seem to think he ‘owes’ us something. He owes us nothing more than the terms of his contract, to which he has adhered totally. His behaviour has been refreshingly honest.
I would say most Watford supporters will be disappointed with the way he handled the situation. It will not help him bonding with the fans as they now expect him to leave when presented with an opportunity. I expect Gino will now concentrate fully on lining up the next coach as the present one has shown WFC is merely a stepping stone.
I hope Silva watched the game, it was dire and Everton got tonked. It'd put me off going there! The Toffee lads at work are worried this is the start of a downward spiral.
"This week Everton received a cease and desist letter from Watford’s lawyers, demanding that the pursuit of Marco Silva be immediately called off — or else." Matt Dickinson - The Times, 24 Nov 2017. From an article about Farhad Moshiri.
http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...rom-manager-marco-silva-watford-a8071921.html Just how much is Silva worth to Watford? On current form quite a lot more than £10M.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-blow-everton-hopes-landing-11575834 I know it's the Mirror, but has apparently bid for a property in Radlett so a sign he's intending to stay! Although they also say in the article he is also still keen to talk to Everton Guess this has been the whole problem - it is all just rumours. The only thing we do know is Everton bid, we rejected. Anything more is people thinking they know something more than they do! That's the trouble with freely-ready social media - any nonsense is out there in seconds, and is believed by people who want to believe it! I have no problem with the club not making any statements and don't think Silva has done all that wrong really... The people that have been annoying are all the pundits saying he should move, and keep saying it! It's only stayed in the news because of them
I would add that the people who have been really annoying are those 'notionally' WFC supporters who seem to think MS is an incarnation of the devil for simply refusing to commit the rest of his life to the hornets.
Too many papers are picking up fake news spread by forums. Not just this story but others as well. No attributable proof provided.
