It's done, let's all move on. If lessons need to be learnt then they will be.
Oh yes. Lesson one is dont trust a thing that Steve Clarke tells. Not only Steve Bruce will have learned that this week.
Clearly Long was one of Brucey's preferred strikers ffs.
If Bruce didn't think he was good enough, he never would have bid £5m for him!
I was shocked that Wba wanted to let him go. They are short (even now) on quality up front. Nothing has changed.
Agreed.
Like Steve Bruce, Steve Clarke was hoping his previous deals has been enough, but following their three mediocre league performances, and an Anelka retirement scare obviously made him re-think his options late in the day.
Personally I don't think West Brom have done enough to escape the lower half table battle that lies ahead.
Anelka could quit at anytime. Lukaku has gone to Everton. Even with Long Wba are in real trouble now.
I think Graham and Sagbo will come good. The way some people are reacting you'd think we we 15 points off safety at the end of the January window, not the odd point after 3 games....
It is only the usual hissy fitters on here who are sat on the panic button. We have proven goal scorers and they will come good. No player is a certain to score at any club. Lookm at Charlie Austin @ Dqpr, nowhere near what he was at Burnley last season so far.
Whats the problem with Peter saying this. We have increased our chances of relegation by not buying a striker. Was Long a "long" term target, were funds released in desperation. But make no mistake we have been left with egg on our face.
Utter drivel and tosh ^^^^ this.
Of cause we don't know the full story, but I actually feel sorry for Shane Long, and this was cause by WBA not City. To allow a player to fly over, have a medical, and then pull the rug on the deal is no way to do business.
It does however make you think about the Odemwingie situation, this has similar feel to it, has he been given bad press over his turning up at QPR, whereas maybe Clarke is the villain here?
Hard to disagree with you John. I can see keeping cool for now over this but getting his revenge either in January or next summer. I would.
How dare you blame Clarke! He's one of Mourinho's men, he can't do anything bad!
Yes he was. Was being the word. Jose Mourinho thinks that much about Clarke that he allowed Lukaku to join Everton instead. Pals indeed.
He is a Scot, and I have lived amongst them, so nothing surprises me.
Never trust a Jock. Especially one who has any power or influence.
Do you think we'll make another bid for Long in January?
Yes. We could well get Long for alot less than £5m now. I wonder what part our ROI lads will play in this over the coming months.?
So....the deal was pulled at 9:50 while we were all sat like idiots pressing refresh on twitter and sky sports feeds for the next hour.
B*stards.
It is called the farce of transfer deadline day. Thankfully we got Gedo in and the damage was not that bad. We have had a great summer window.
Apparently Clarke is keen to discuss a new contract with him, according to the media this morning.
I dont think that Shane Long will be that keen. He can leave for nowt next summer. Give Long a £2m signing on fee if we can wait until next summer. The perfect revenge.
Some people are making mountains from molehills.
Shane Long will stay at West Brom quite happily and still play. Victor Anichebe is ****, it won't take long to take his place in the pecking order.
Some people dont forget that quickly. If it were me i would be ready to stick one on Clarke as soon as possible. ""REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD""
