Depends if he's happy to sit on WBA's bench or play for their reserves rather than get in our starting line up

Some people are making mountains from molehills.

Shane Long will stay at West Brom quite happily and still play. Victor Anichebe is ****, it won't take long to take his place in the pecking order.

It's done, let's all move on. If lessons need to be learnt then they will be.

Oh yes. Lesson one is dont trust a thing that Steve Clarke tells. Not only Steve Bruce will have learned that this week.

Clearly Long was one of Brucey's preferred strikers ffs.
If Bruce didn't think he was good enough, he never would have bid £5m for him!

I was shocked that Wba wanted to let him go. They are short (even now) on quality up front. Nothing has changed.

Agreed.
Like Steve Bruce, Steve Clarke was hoping his previous deals has been enough, but following their three mediocre league performances, and an Anelka retirement scare obviously made him re-think his options late in the day.
Personally I don't think West Brom have done enough to escape the lower half table battle that lies ahead.

Anelka could quit at anytime. Lukaku has gone to Everton. Even with Long Wba are in real trouble now.

I think Graham and Sagbo will come good. The way some people are reacting you'd think we we 15 points off safety at the end of the January window, not the odd point after 3 games....

It is only the usual hissy fitters on here who are sat on the panic button. We have proven goal scorers and they will come good. No player is a certain to score at any club. Lookm at Charlie Austin @ Dqpr, nowhere near what he was at Burnley last season so far.

Whats the problem with Peter saying this. We have increased our chances of relegation by not buying a striker. Was Long a "long" term target, were funds released in desperation. But make no mistake we have been left with egg on our face.

Utter drivel and tosh ^^^^ this.

Of cause we don't know the full story, but I actually feel sorry for Shane Long, and this was cause by WBA not City. To allow a player to fly over, have a medical, and then pull the rug on the deal is no way to do business.

It does however make you think about the Odemwingie situation, this has similar feel to it, has he been given bad press over his turning up at QPR, whereas maybe Clarke is the villain here?

Hard to disagree with you John. I can see keeping cool for now over this but getting his revenge either in January or next summer. I would.

How dare you blame Clarke! He's one of Mourinho's men, he can't do anything bad!

Yes he was. Was being the word. Jose Mourinho thinks that much about Clarke that he allowed Lukaku to join Everton instead. Pals indeed.

He is a Scot, and I have lived amongst them, so nothing surprises me.

Never trust a Jock. Especially one who has any power or influence.

Do you think we'll make another bid for Long in January?

Yes. We could well get Long for alot less than £5m now. I wonder what part our ROI lads will play in this over the coming months.?

So....the deal was pulled at 9:50 while we were all sat like idiots pressing refresh on twitter and sky sports feeds for the next hour.
B*stards.

It is called the farce of transfer deadline day. Thankfully we got Gedo in and the damage was not that bad. We have had a great summer window.

Apparently Clarke is keen to discuss a new contract with him, according to the media this morning.

I dont think that Shane Long will be that keen. He can leave for nowt next summer. Give Long a £2m signing on fee if we can wait until next summer. The perfect revenge.

Some people dont forget that quickly. If it were me i would be ready to stick one on Clarke as soon as possible. ""REVENGE IS A DISH BEST SERVED COLD""

They have Rosenberg, Long, Anichebe, Vydra and Anelka, if they're still short up front, then we're seriously ****ed.

Even their kid Berahino would make our bench.

If you really believe that then good for you. Vydra is like Gedo unproven at PL level so we shall have to wait on that one.

If Anichibe was any good then Everton would have kept him. To get £6m for him is great business for the toffees.

Anelka is Anelka and he could walk out anytime. That leaves Rosenburg and Long. The next few weeks should be very very interesting.

They have sessegnon as well dont they?

I'll be honest, I forgot they had Vydra

Vydra is out injured at the moment. Got hurt in the Newport cup game. Sessegnon is more midfield / wide man and is like Anelka only plays when he can be bothered. PDiC lost patience with him hence why he was sold.

Niall Quinn on SSN monday night said that Sessegnon needs a kiss and a cuddle more than a bollocking. I wish Wba well with him.

Alright then.

Sagbo - Unproven pretty much everywhere.

Graham - One half decent season. Couldn't buy a goal at the moment.

Fryatt - Never been prolific above League One.

McLean - See Fryatt.

Prozmeister - ...

Sessegnon is the player you were predicting Bruce would go for awhile ago tickles, cos we all took the piss out of you about it........TWT if you can remember that

There's only Graham there who I really expect to do well for us this season.

Hull tabled offer which they could not finance

RICHARD Garlick has explained the transfer deadline-day developments surrounding Hull’s interest in striker Shane Long.

The Sporting & Technical Director (designate) said: “Hull unexpectedly contacted us on Monday and tabled an acceptable offer for Shane. Given that every player has his price, we discussed it as a club.

“We accepted Hull’s offer in principle and gave them permission to speak to Shane, but the deal depended on many other factors – including a real reluctance to sell.

“In a phone conversation with Shane’s representative, I informed him that Shane was under no pressure to leave. We were definitely not trying to force him out.

“Hull then informed us they could not finance the deal they had tabled and wanted to reduce it to a level that the club would never have accepted in the first place.

“Given that Shane was not a player we were looking to sell, we ended all negotiations with Hull there and then.

“Contrary to media reports, the decision to keep Shane had absolutely nothing to do with Romelu Lukaku opting to join Everton.

“Shane remains a West Bromwich Albion player and we’re delighted he’s still here.

“He’s played an important role in the club’s recent progress and we are sure he will make another big contribution this term.”

I call shenanigans on this reason btw

Bullshit!! We pay £10,000 for a private plane to get him back over here and then can't afford the deal? This makes them look more of twats then they already do.
