Regardless of how ownership was taken, the club is now financially stable enough that we are a viable investment.

We certainly weren’t before. If he’s a chancer, my days he gambled his whole ****ing lot on it and he deserves credit for that.

If they hadn’t been able to cut those costs and stabilise the club, he’d have lost everything.

The fact we are even discussing a takeover of this level is incredible.

Haven't you seen the massive queue of multi millionaires and billionaires waiting in line to take over league one and two clubs?

And before anyone says about its because of who we are, I didnt see many looking Bolton, who it could be argued have the same standing historically as us

Sorry, can't trawl the whole of the later part of this thread but have the Sun now said it's back on or have I misunderstood?

The gist of their story is that Donald wants £50 million for the club then if we get promoted he wants £15 million as a “bonus” for getting to the championship and £25 million if we go to the Premier League. He said the whole article was riddled with lies, and defamatory.

Wow this place is really different from over there, after my post i would he called pissy knickers and probably felt the wrath of Pancho.

Back to your point though, I've always had the theory they had a one season plan and then move on with a profit. The way it read to me is he promised no more of the old Sunderland, ie signing ****e on massive wages, smart investment and bringing through youth. But the reality is he did sign ****e on massive wages (Grigg) didn't make smart investments (Grigg and most of the team tbh) and the youth has been pretty non existant. He tread water last season expecting promotion with the 3 big fishes we had in the team, that went tits up and now he has no money to push us on and we are relying on freebies.

I think he absolutely hoped on promotion last season, but that would have been ahead of the plan.

Remember, very few of us, the fans ‘expected’ to go up last year mate, it was as the season developed we felt we could (and we should have).

Grigg has been a disaster, but very few could have seen that, indeed he found the money to pay the biggest fee ever in this league, only with hindsight was that a bad move.

The reality is now we have to bring in lesser players to keep that balance on the wages and that is the killer. The big issue at the club, I think we can all agree, is scouting and recruitment, that’s been a disaster.

Too many of the same players in midfield, not enough of anything up front.

On the business side, they’ve done a fair job.

I’ve been reading that he asked for an additional payment if we reached the PL, making his return £40million.

Facts are his return was always put at around that, and if we hit the PL the new owners have £180million guaranteed.

I don’t think he’s being unreasonable, why wouldn’t he want to do the best for himself as well? I know if that was me or you, and as you say his shallow allegiance to the club, you’d think ‘once in a lifetime, I’m making sure I max this’.

I think it’ll get there. First and foremost a manager needs appointed now, it’s looking like they hadn’t planned for replacing Ross and that is absolutely schoolboy given the importance of this season.

This being the case then it is the opposite of everything which he has continually claimed to be the reason he is in it, i.e. wanting the best for the club. These were his words. The **** he is now getting may be due to the fact that it appears he is not putting the club at the forefront but his own personal gain, if what you say is indeed his way of thinking.

Thanks marra, saved me a lot of time !

He’s a businessman mate.

He can want what’s best for the club but still see it as a business opportunity.

He didn’t buy the club for the craic.

If I owned a club other than Sunderland (he’s an oxford fan, remember), and all was nice and ticking over, then I could quadruple my money, I’d bust my bollocks to make that happen.

Anyone would. Remember we have this emotional attachment and he doesn’t. It doesn’t mean someone’s lied or mislead, sometimes things just change.

Said from day one when we were linked with Grigg he would be a shambles but thats just my guess and im bitterly disappointed I predicted right. As for sorting the club out I just feel it was absolutely necessary for anyone that was at the helm to do, so I don't believe he was an master negotiator and only a genius like him could have done it.

I take no pleasure in taking a pop at him mate I just can't see what some of you lads see. One thing for sure is he has a big BIG few months ahead of him. Let's hope he gets it right and falls into place.

We can all agree on that mate.

For the record I don’t think the sun shines out his arse, and I agree, others could have stepped up and done it.

Facts are, they didn’t, and he did, and for that he deserves credit. There wasn’t a queue of buyers, indeed most were running, screaming, away from the place.

Absolutely mate. As I say it's nothing personal, i just think it's all the years of constantly being kicked in the plums has me very cautious and maybe quite bitter to the situation as a whole.

I would just chill out lads, the club seems to have closed ranks now and nothing really is coming out newsworthy. As for anything said in The Sun should be treat as pure Bollocks much like the rest of their stories. Just wait and see what happens, nothing we can do, speculation is meaningless without something to back it up...which lets face it, is thin on the ground now. Que sera sera

Understandable. And I think the sheer scale of the prospect has brought a few irrational thoughts which has been whipped up into a cyclone.

I’ve said before, none of us where talking about a takeover until it looked like it was happening, but now it’s slowed down and it’s armageddon?

Bonkers ain’t it?

I think the **** he is now getting is due to his overuse of social media and from day 1 trying to be all things to all fans. Its come back to haunt him.
I have certain misgivings about him and I have no issue with him making a few bob.
Problem is he has given the the fans the impression that he is and will be an open book and that he is Mr Altruism. He is neither of those things, never was and never will be. He has made a rod for his own back and now he is being beaten with it and consequently cant take the pain.
I dont know how this pans out, but I suggest that his retort about defamation and lies etc ie a dig at both the sun and mad. In this 3 dog fight he is chihuahua fighting an american bull terrier and a british bull terrier.
Lots of bad metaphors in that lot
