I seem to recall it being reported that 'he needed time to get his head together' after Barnsley (although, maybe, not using those exact words).

This is the quote that caused that rumour

“Daniel Stendel, who won promotion from League One with Barnsley last season, has been interviewed by Sunderland’s recruitment team, but there are understood to be concerns about the fact he was only recently dismissed from Oakwell and might need some time to clear his mind.”

Absolutely nothing from the man himself, just a bizarre statement.

I'd agree BUT believe that IF (and that is a BIG 'IF') we (or any other club) have the players to 'out football' other sides, whilst showing that they can combat physically we/they will prevail.
People blame the players we have which is fair enough, I do think we're missing a bit of pace and physicality in key areas. But, the main factor to our dismal performances had to be down to Ross and not knowing his best team or tactics. Many people have said it, maybe in jest, probably not, but it did look like he relied heavily on getting the ball to McGeady a lot and 'hoping' he would make something happen. I mean, he did have a good amount of players who have gone up from this league in the last few seasons so they obviously know what the league is all about.

As for Wyke and Grigg, yeah they aren't world beaters, but in league 1 they are above average/good level players who scored goals for other teams. For me, Ross just didn't have a clue how to play to their strengths and build our tactics around them. After all, scoring goals is what wins games and if we won every game 4-3 I would be happy.

Let's hope Parkinson can do devise a system that gets the best out of our squad and fast!

We're seriously short of pace and power...

Wyke being injured is maybe a good thing as we wont have a target man. They will have to play it on the floor....

I wasn't there yesterday, I watched on a link but it didn't look pretty. We will be without Wyke and Mcgeady on Tuesday but maybe that's not a bad thing.
As good as McGeady is, I couldn't help thinking I would love that lad they had on the wing yesterday. He was quick and direct and had a very good game against us. Sometimes all you need to do is get the ball in the box early, 9 times out of 10, McGeady just doesn't do that. For me, he should be playing in the hole behind the striker/s now as he has the skill and vision to play there but dithers too much on the wing.

Been screaming this for a year. Play McGeady number 10.

We’ve nobody else even close to being able to do it and and pace down wings from Gooch/Watmore/Maguire etc.

Its staring us straight in the face.

Imo safc should play 442. Basic straight forward system with players knowing their roles

Basically a formation used by Reid which produced the best safc teams in my supporting career.

There is no reason of fannying around at this level

Exactly at this level they just need a team that knows what they are doing strong and are ready to go out and battle every game.

No tippy tappy bullshit, no fancy flicks and passes, just get the ball forward and smash it in the back of the net.

Refs are **** in this league as well so I'd be telling the lads go out and kick the **** out of the other team, play for the league we're in and be dirty bastards like the rest of the league.

It’s that simple. About time safc clicked on. Nothing to be fancy about at this level.

About time the cube got a game

Well the fact he was kept on after the play off final spoke volumes.
Not only was it a defeat, it was a humiliating surrender by a team with no money, a very thin squad and rookie manager.
Exactly - he should have been canned in the summer.

I wanted Ross to stay on. I thought A he was bright enough to recognise his mistakes and B him and the board would have a plan on place to plug our gaps quickly and a new man wouldn’t necessarily know them. I was wrong on Ross - his crap system remained and the cheap goals continued and infuriatingly we were so slow and indecisive again in the transfer market due to the possible takeover and the priority of cost cutting that we improved in some positions and got worse in others
