He may have spoiled his reputation off the field but no one even comes close to Le Tissier. I try not to listen to what he's got to say since retiring and I won't erase his absolute genius for the Saints because of it. I can't think of a better English midfielder from his era other than Gascoigne and not many since either.
King Kev and Bally wore 7 for us as well didn't they? but overall I would say that Matt is the one for me.

I look at that and think we got it right with every one but Fonte. The rest left at the right time or for the right price - but Fonte was all our fault.
Fonte looked totally disinterested when he came back after Portugal’s success. It seemed to me that he’d already made up his mind to look elsewhere, so I don’t think it was “our fault” that he went. I reckon his agent was whispering in his ear that he deserved better and he just wasn’t interested in our little club any longer. Let’s face it, when he left he didn’t exactly set the Premier League alight, did he?

It’s desperately revisionist to suggest otherwise. If you remember, there were a lot of whispers that ‘United’ were coming in for him, hence why he definitely looked like he couldn’t be arsed. Turned out it was one of the other United teams…
I never blamed him for wanting that last big contract coming towards the end of his career and him and the likes of Adam actually gave us a fair chunk of their career unlike some of our other players and managers.
Both sides should have handled it better really. He came back from the Euros wanting a move (fair enough, he'd seen loads of others move on and then captained us to back to back European qualification).
The club's response in preventing him playing in any of the EL matches was just plain petty though and put a whole dark cloud over the situation for me. He didn't deserve that imo.

Not the EPL but he was in the French League 1 team of the season last year (with Perraud).

i hope he’s better at negotiating for new players than he is at negotiating for new clubs
On my phone Lyanco’s message came up as having sensitive content. I opened it with trepidation...nothing. He does say God bless but, although not particularly religious, I have no problem with someone blessing me. Surely that can’t be seen as offensive...there was certainly nothing else.
