That was a bit emotional watching that back again. Mrs Game and I are in that crowd somewhere, I was playing as a false 10 that day if I remember correctly (Mrs Game was in goal). Loved Jos Hooiveld, 8 goals from a centre back, one of my favourites from that era.
:"As a striker, Barinaga scored 62 goals in 18 league and cup matches for the south-coast outfit's B team." Could do with him now. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hampshire-61179882 Made more poignant by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the tardy response of the UK government.
This is quite interesting, with regard to what @Che’s Godlike Thighs and I were discussing about the aggressive 'surge' that our CBs do, when they come flying up from their natural positions to intercept a ball/player. This says to me nothing other than "this is a definite tactic" - and the downside being, when they fly up and miss the player/interception there's a bloody great gap left.
I'd expect Marty Cash to be number 1 (unless he still hasn't been able to get the Sports Almanac back from Biff )
If you mean by comparing the then government to today's then actually they were no better. Also a Conservative government (coincidentally?). https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-35532286 This one part of the article shows the amount of compassion shown by the Baldwin government, who were accused of being sympathetic to Franco's cause. "However, the evacuation of women and children from the besieged Basque Country was seen as a possible breach of the non-intervention policy by some in Whitehall. The government's view was that, if people were removed, "then these are mouths, people, that don't have to be fed - in a way you are helping to prolong the defence of Bilbao against the attack by Franco," Mr Bell adds."
I mentioned it when Salisu was out injured/suspended (against Villa I think). He is comfortably the best at doing it and we weren’t doing it at all that day. Coutinho was just turning and running at our back four and pulling us apart. It is definitely a tactic because our midfield are too slow to get back. Be interested to see if Diallo has a long run playing as part of the 2 as he is more athletic than JWP or Romeu if we would still have such a high point of engagement from our centre backs
I don't think the advertisers would be overly happy with the swearing tbh... Although my match reports would obviously be rational, fair and wouldn't contain any knee jerk reactions whatsoever. I would keep it very similar to my posting style!
I used to write but I suppose my match reports would be limited to comments about the dust and dead spiders behind the sofa, so, sadly, of little interest
Your evenhanded, commonsense and logical posts are a guiding light for the hotheaded reactionaries on here.
Saturday 7th May 2022 - Brentford v Southampton 15:00 KO Referee: Michael Salisbury. Assistants: Lee Betts, Mark Scholes. Fourth official: Jonathan Moss. VAR: Lee Mason. Assistant VAR: Wade Smith.
What about the empty G&T glass and tear stained hankie? I've got crumbs from my half time pie and half a can of warm beer behind mine.
I hope Michael Salisbury is decent because a team of officials that includes Jonathan Moss and Lee Mason would normally strike fear into the hearts of most football fans.
