can anyone spot Ted Bates or Alf Ramsey. Photo taken from ancestry. Sorry if someone else has posted before.
Great picture Beddy, I'm afraid I'm old enough to recognise both even if I didn't see them play. Wouldn't know any of the others though. Ramsey, back row second from right. Bates, front row second from right. How are you doing down there Beddy? Still being looked after or have you had enough now? Edit.......I've heard of Charlie Wayman and thought it might be the guy on Ted Bates' right.
still stuck out here mate am until at least mid June. Met Charlie Wayman a couple of times as a boy not that I remember a lot and yes seen him play and Ted Bates. Not sure about Ramsey though. I think CW is front row far left as you look...not sure though.....
Interesting fact - we also beat Coventry on this day 36 years ago at the Dell 8-2 with Moran & Wallace (Danny) both getting a hatrick
Grrrrr That was the weekend I took my wife to London for a theatre break. I can still see her face, when we turned on the tv in the hotel room to hear something like “There were two hat tricks at the Dell as Southampton beat Coventry 8-2.”
I’m afraid that’s all wrong! Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo all played for Real, and Pirlo/Maldini for Milan.
Who remembers this infamous game at Filbert Street back in 1983. We were in 2nd place, and a win would have taken us to the top of the League. Shown on Match of the Day even though it was abandoned after 22 minutes.......definitely waterlogged.
yes but you can lay a new one in no time. These days about a week or two rest for the new pitch and off you go again.
They could show some action shots of the grass growing, to break up the monotony of lock down. Running commentary from Big Dave, "What we don't want to do now is disturb the Saxon inmates of the burial ground under the ground..."
