He helped us get to the PL, and helped save the club which will always be fondly remembered. But the way in which he treated club legends etc he didn't come across as the nicest of people, especially with his ego. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate what he did for the club though.
Listened to the whole of the Cortese interview and was surprised how tactful and diplomatic he came across? 2 traits I would never have associated with him.
Charlie Austin looks like one of those guys you know you should stay away from but his smile and the twinkle in his eyes makes you want to ignore your brain.
Saints Web already have a thread about how long MP2 has got. In the past I would have laughed at this...after all our form this season is P4, W1, D2, L1...ok'ish on paper....crap on the pitch. Got to give the manager time to settle in, get the players on board etc etc. And we are unlikely to do a Crystal Palace. It's not like me to lose faith so quickly....I think I'm depressed.
Think the problems (not unrecoverable) that are causing everyone's feelings are as follows Fran: 1) We've played 3 homes (Swansea, West Ham, Watford), & 1 away (Huddersfield) which has got to be up there with the easiest runs of 4 fixtures you'll see in the season. 2) We've only scored once from open play in those games, and lack of goal scoring has been a trend that goes back to mid last season. (No goals in 9 of last 12 in PL) We just gotta hope the manager has some rabbits in hats, or cards up his sleeve, that he's not had time to show yet. That, and the board actually support him in the positions we need in January. (Is that when Atletico's transfer ban ends? Could make way for Vietto if they can sign someone)
You will also have noted that the lunatics have taken over the asylum on the Echo site, my advice is to stay clear unless you want lessons on being a manic depressive.
So Saintdon thinks I should avoid being near depressing people and Latviandream wants to help me find a knife. I think it is the lack of goals that is most worrying....the results as such aren't terrible (we've had worse), but it is all so similar to last season and that is worrying, especially as we have harder games to come. I thought our team was reasonably strong and we just needed someone to organise them into a more attacking side....there are four scenarios: 1. Too early to judge MP2 and just need to give him more time; 2. MP2 isn't the manager we need; 3. the team is poorer than I thought; 4. other teams have improved while we stand still. You can pick and mix that lot. All you need to remember is that I am usually a happy clapper
I would say it is a combination of 1, 3 and 4. Too early to tell about 2. If people are freaking out after our start then I think they have over estimated our team. We are a pretty average PL team, we most likely won't go down but we won't be anywhere near challenging the top 6. There was a time a couple of years ago that we were the "best of the rest" and had a good enough squad to build on and maybe push on, but we've sold a lot of that side and the replacements haven't been as good. Couple that with other teams spending bigger money than us and the gap has completely gone between us and the likes of Stoke/West Brom that we had in Koeman's last season. Last year was an anomaly year in that everyone outside of the top 6/7 could argue they had had a poor year and the closeness of the league from 8th down shows there was very little difference between the sides that stayed up.
I think the year before, the Leicester title one, was an even bigger anomaly and led people to overestimate RKs ability.
I suppose the old saying comes into play in this scenario. If Leicester or Burnley et all can do it why the hell can't we...........Reasonable assumption I suppose if a tad unrealistic for now......
