The win that took us to the Championship....loved that kit. Great goal from Chamberlain and, wow, wasn't Davis mad about Walsall's goal. Fair scorched the ears of the defence. :)
Agree with everything there. I remember thinking that the Sash kit was going to make us look a bit amateurish. How wrong could I be. It was actually one of our classiest. The black socks could somehow be a bit odd, but only when they had different colour tape on them. Nowadays the tape has to be the same colour as the socks. Oxlade-Chamberlain hasn't improved a single jot since then. In fact, I think a case could be made that he has gone backwards. Back then he was an impish little wonder, who burst on the scene and ate Lge One defences for breakfast, just with his enthusiasm. Yet he had no lack of skill, pace or confidence. All that appears to have hugely diminished under Wenger, to the point where if he popped up as a potential transfer back to Southampton I would be a bit iffy about it.

And tbf, Julian Gray's Walsall goal was a cracker. There didn't look to be a huge lot on there. Just like OXO's later on. All of the goals were good 'uns.

This is still my favourite season supporting Saints. Went to Orient away and loved every bit of it. Also my first season with a season ticket.

Championship I loved too but will forever be spoiled by a mad ex-girlfriend who made my life hell.

Saints have posted a video of all Sam Gallagher's goals on facebook. I believe several clubs are interested in him....not surprising as a regular goal scorer will be a target for any club. Although it is possible that he was sent on loan to get experience before returning to us, the most likely scenario is that it was considered good for his development before he is sold....putting him in the best position to get a good contract elsewhere. Very pleased for him...still young and has a good career ahead of him.

If you believe the rumours (yes I know) then Cardiff have offered £3m and Villa £3.5m. I would sell him with a decent sell on clause. There a number of other young players that should be loaned out rather than stagnating eg Read, Seagar etc

Is Gallagher allowed to take part in our squad, or is he tied by the loan contract to Blackburn, until our season has ended?
The variety of goals he scored, for Blackburn, make me think he's worth having in the squad, for next season. Reminded me of Peter Crouch.

Personally after the season Gallagher has had, being a key player in a team doomed for relegation at his age shows alot of maturity. I hope Saints see what he can do in pre season as i think he would add a different style of play up top. You only need to look at Harry Kane to see what given a chance can do.

This was the season for him here. Nobody's fault how it panned out, but we will never be as light up front as we were this term. Opportunity lost.
It depends how you think about it. While we were certainly had less ability up front this year. We've had more players in Austin Long and Rodriguez competing from one spot , so he would have been competing with both Rodriguez and Long for game time to prove himself. last season we just has Long and Pelle and even had to play Mane as a striker at one point.

Rodriguez will likely go, so if we get an injury to Austin or Gabbiadini next season then Gallagher will get his chances to prove himself if he's in our squad.

You mean shooting for goal when taking the ball into the corner in the last minute would have been a lot better.? ;)

Got the 90 minutes of that game with another commentator. Wish it had been Peter Drury, as here. He's not a 'glamour club' commentator and therefore easier on the ear, for me. I've got the 90 minutes of the recent League Cup semi-final with him commentating. So good. He fully appreciated Saints excellent performance throughout that match, and didn't put it down to Liverpool misfiring or missing players. Last weekend's game shows that was no fluke.
