We were having a discussion about what people from Portsmouth have been called over the years and my mate reckons that people in Southampton would have called them Pompeyites in the 1940s. Not coming from Southampton I don't know. Is this true?

Yes can can confirm........certainly in the late 40's and up to the mid/late 50's as far as my memory goes.

Ah Puel's fault he can't finish! :)

Not just finishing: we aren't working shots in the dangerous areas of the pitch. Combine that with poor overall finishing and you have an awful lot of shots in the stands or the keepers' arms. Only question is whether this is a flaw in our game plan and personnel, or just variance.

I was ever so slightly tongue in cheek.... :p

I think one part possibly overlooked is that we have built a reputation over the last three seasons as a top team. More teams come to stop us, making it harder to find clearer chances.

Possibly.

Pace of attack is my suspected culprit. We fashioned gilt-edged chances last year despite having a reputation as a good scoring team because (when successful, at least) we didn't dither when we got the ball. It would be fun to watch last year's goal reel and then this year's; guessing that the difference in where the shots came from (and the amount of space the shooter had) would be pronounced.

My point exactly....especially early in the season....the manager set the team up and we created lots of chances, but Puel can't put the ball in the net himself. He must have been pulling his hair out. It's those early results (or lack off) that were the most disappointing. Points on the board being everything. We ill have to gird our loins this weekend (unless we get something against Liverpool) we are going down...if only temporarily. :)

Despite the result good to see Matty and Austin back.

He played really well too, one of our best. Put some great crosses in and defended like he'd never been away. Charlie, on the other hand, is nowhere near fit. Puffing and blowing like he'd smoked 40 ***s in the changing rooms.

Beefy has already said that Austins lifestyle choices are to be desired from a profesional footballer.
