I have been really impressed with Hull this season. I did think you had a great chance of staying up even before the great additions made in the summer. Bruce is doing a great job. Expecting a really tough game, I think it will finish 1-1. Don't feel very confident about this one at all, I'm not sure why all the other saints fans on here are so confident! Safe travels to everyone making the journey down.
The Southampton official website basically tells everyone not to go by car. The park and ride was excellent last time I went but is no longer operating.
It's quite refreshing to have you lot on here this week, we got a right load of deluded nonsense from the Mackems last week.
Bruce is a good manager and I hope he keeps you up. Can't agree with Osvaldo though, I'm confident we will beat you at home.
It'll be interesting to see how the managers set up for this, as both will be respectful of the others defences. Home advantage and a better strike force leaves it tilting toward a Southampton win, but our lot can really dig deep. I'm predicting a tight game, so one of us is in for a stuffing.
Unbeaten in 7 league games, unbeaten at home, 4 goals conceded all season (1 a fluke) only one conceded at home, 2nd in form table. If we can't be confident now, then we never can. Hull are going to be anything but a pushover. From what I've seen, their defence is pretty strong, but I'm confident we can unlock it.
we will play our high pressing / line attacking game , we wont change that for any visiting team . As I said will be a tight game I feel and could go either way , there are no easy games but I do believe that if we play as good as we can then we will be too much for you . If anyone needs any advice for the day e.g parking etc just shout ! ...safe journey down
If you're driving, a reasonable place to park would be the Parkway station. It's right by the motorway, and a short hop on a train to the city centre and St Mary's. http://en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/...irport_parkway_station_mscp/so18/southampton/
Agreed. They play a high pressing game which will suit us down to the ground if our passing game is anything like. Not a game for Aluko or Brady atm. Same team for me if they are all fit. I suspect that Steve Bruce will be up north on weds watching that game. Saints will play a strong 11 as they will fancy doing a Swansea this season. Good news for us.
If we get anything from this match it'll be fantastic. Saints have been a decent side for the last few seasons, and have improved every year. Would like City to emulate them.
I would be delighted with a draw. When I first looked at this month's league games, I only looked at Sunderland and Palace for points. Southampton are one of those teams in between 'free hits' and 'must get 3pts'.
I didn't realise that there's some serious history between them and Poyet. I wonder if their focus is on that game rather than us? I hope so, we need all the edge we can get down there. Them playing tomorrow and travelling back could help us too.
Four of those who were around for the League One days (Lambert, Lallana, Schneiderlin and Fonte) will likely be saved for the weekend; Kelvin Davis is really the only hand from that time likely to play, and he won't be in the lineup come Saturday unless Boruc headbutts a wall or some such. The cup might be a distraction, but I don't think that most of the players will even be aware of Poyet's antagonism...hell, some of them may not even be aware that Saints were in League One.
Obviously I have no ulterior motive at all, but I think you fans should really make the players aware of the sleight he laid on your club and really drive home how important it is that the players give their all in the cup, even if it's at the expense of just this one iddy biddy league game coming up....maybe????
I actually hope Osvaldo plays, we have his least favourite defence; physical. McShane will get right on his breasts. Everything points to a tight game, but I'm not confident. If Southampton carry on their organised approach I don't think we'll score.
