Beef said Forster is on £60k a week net, which might well work out to be more than £80k a week gross.

I wouldn’t say that. Of course, short of actually seeing their payslip we can never be totally sure what a player is paid but that’s true of most fees, wages etc and these figures are generally reported and somewhat trusted. I’ve seen his wages reported as £80k and £90k in quite a few places.

Ive always thought of wages to be usually unreported and very unreliable. If you search for southampton fc wages in google you basically just get dailystar articles and that one sun article about highest paid players. Everything else seems to be basing it on those. And it's not like you're going to get it confirmed. Agents likely lie about it anyway to get bigger wage offers from other clubs and attract potential clients. Then you have tax, contract clauses and such which make it very blurry anyway.

Well I wouldn’t necessarily trust the Daily Star. Plus the first link I get for the Star quotes Football Manager as its source for the wages. So yeah, I’d ignore that. Interesting that the Star is the first page that pops up on a google search at all. They may need to revisit their algorithms.

However the Sun article actually says it’s taking figures from a report in the Mail, which in turn cites The Times as its source, as do some other sites, one of which says “figures compiled by The Times”. I don’t care enough to get past the Times paywall/signup page and read their article in full but that’s rather more credible. As I say, short of seeing payslips (or knowing someone who works in payroll or something at Saints), you can’t be certain of exact figures but I’d say they’re in the right ball park.

I think the board need to stop putting out puff pieces and work hard on the targets they want. I'm sure they would have liked Theo for the right price/wage etc.

In other words you have to go through a large chain of reporters quoting eachother before getting to a single source thats outdated as its for the old contract and if it was true at the time might mean our under performing goalkeeper's on over 100k now with the extension. Yeah, i still find it dubious.

Does anything make you think they are not working hard on their targets?

The problem is when we chase transfers that have little chance of coming to pass, because they're contingent on the other team dropping their asking price considerably or the player taking a large wage cut. Doesn't matter how hard they work, it's likely to come to nothing. If Walcott signs for well in excess of 20m and 100k p/w+, we were never realistically in the frame.

Why are you quoting the Theo deal?

my point in this post was that San pellegrino moaned that the Board aren’t working hard enough to do a deal.... I just don’t understand why people moan about how hard they are working when they really have no idea at all. The people Involved could be working very, very hard but not done the deal. On Theo, hey may not have worked very hard because the price was too high. We just don’t know.

It is just another kick out.
