This. The commentators apologising thing doesn't really bother me because I believe they just have to say it or the channel gets fined. The boring ****ers who tut though, they definitely need their own area.
Pisses me off no end when I'm shouting in the north stand and people moan about the language because they've got kids there. Firstly, if they're over the age of 7, they'll hear (and say) worse in school. Secondly, there's a ****ing family area. If I was in there I'd watch my language, and if someone pulled me on it I'd think fair enough. If I'm in a normal area, however, I'm ****ed if I'm watching my language. I've taken my bairn to the north stand a few times since the age of 3. Never once thought about telling anyone not to swear. He'll hear it anyway, I just make sure he knows he can't repeat it and we're fine.
Memories of RP. Obviously the Man City cup game in '73, night game, rip-snorting goals, battered the second or third best team in the country. You couldn't make it up. Bolton Wanderers, Easter Monday '76 (?), glorious sunny day. Them top, us second, crammed in the cage in the Fulwell, won 2-1 went top, stayed there got promoted as champions. The game that persuaded Peter Reid many years later to be our manager. Another promotion special - West Ham, again, Easter. Won 2-0 iirc. Abiding memory being of getting burned in the crook of my elbow by someone's cigarette when we scored the first, the scar took 15 years to disappear. All electric atmospheres. The Man Utd 3-2 was another special one, and the Gordon Armstong Chelsea game. The Benno/Speedie bust up 
One final one. A Friday night at home to Bristol City, the season we went unbeaten at home in the league. Going into it, we were 19-1-0 at home, the only points dropped were ironically enough against Bristol Rovers. We dominated the game, but went one down in the first half and coudn't seem to find a way back. Then with a few minutes to go a cross came in from the right and rising like the proverbial salmon to power a glorious equaliser was - the one and only Mel Holden (earlier posts). Scenes. Unbeaten record preserved.

I got my first season ticket in 1990 in the Main Stand, prior to that it was years stood in the Fulwell end. From the Main stand I used to look over at Fulwell thinking ‘I wish I was back over there’ it was way more fun.
I never imagined leaving Roker Park but I remember like yesterday when me and my 5 mates went to get our Season cards for the SOL. We got to go into the stadium and see what our view would be like and I was blown away by how it looked in comparison to RP. Our seats were in the east stand, row 11 right in line with the 18 yard line by the South west corner, great seats and good craic with all the loonies just to our right.
Roker Park was amazing and the SOL has never had as good an atmosphere ( bar the odd game ) but I was very proud of our new ground as it was probably the best club ground in the country back then. Still miss Roker Park though.

One of my memories was in 1979 when we beat Everton 2-1 in the fa cup at a very very cold RP, the score warmed everyone up that night (apart from the toffees) only thing I can’t remember are the goal scorers.
Was'nt that the game where the ground was packed tight and the official attendance was given as 40 odd thousand. Lads turned up at school next day with arms bandaged where they climbed over the walls ( topped with broken glass )

I was told they wanted to announce it at the Fleetwood home game, presumably as the press would be there anyway, which didn't happen.
I've heard nothing since but I couldn't care less if they put a small ad in the Echo tbh, just get it sorted.
