We're hiring a Head of Recruitment too. Speakman will focus on development whilst overseeing everything. Someone else will be in charge of transfers by the sounds of it.

Not according to safc.com. " After departing Birmingham City following an outstanding 14-year tenure, Speakman will lead SAFC’s overall football programme, including player identification, development and acquisitions across the first team and academy."

I think he'll be the one who signs stuff off, but someone will be doing the grunt work. Either way, be interesting to see it all unfold. I'm buzzing.

What did Johnson do besides keeping a L1 club between 22-12th place before being sacked and the next manager getting that club 6th and promoted, then getting sacked after a few mid table seasons in the Championship?
Is there anything else? Being young and favouring attacking football? Genuine questions.

I enjoyed it. Definitely knows what he is doing and understands the size of the task ahead. He will need time of course but I'm very happy to have him on board from what I've read and heard about him.
Agree, actions obviously speak louder than words but hopefully this this the start of getting thing right finally....

I must admit to bed wetting as some have put it. I just can’t help but think now was the time to get a manager that would get the fans together. There can be no doubt this has split the fan base right down the middle which gets off to a very bad start. I like the structure but just can’t work out why they didn’t go for a all in one announcement including Dreyfus to show a whole new Sunderland.
It feels more like same old Sunderland same old Donald.
Trouble is there hasn't been a manager mentioned (realistic options) that have been accepted by everyone. ALL of the managers mentioned have had positive and negative responses.
It doesn't seem like anything to do with Donald to me and we at least appear to have a plan, which is what most people have wanted.
Give the lad a chance as things needed to change.
