A massive massive opportunity missed here. The fans were crying out for an ambitious appointment as a statement of intent.

We are getting a former PE teacher

The last 48 hours sum following this club up to perfection

If it’s Cowley then it’s rip Sunderland we are staying In league one

also means takeover isn’t happening

Why are we staying in League 1?

He has constantly and consistently got teams promoted, and then last season took a team with 1 point from 7 games up to safety, with a run of form which would have seen them finish 9th if spread over the season.

He could be ****ing brilliant and our fans would do well to get behind him and stop acting like kids who thought they were getting a shiny present.

So who do we believe here, two people saying different things. One saying end of week/ start of next and another saying cowley is the manager.

At the end of the day whoever is appointed will have a remit for promotion. A manager can only make a name for themselves by taking clubs and being successful. We may end up with Cowley or somebody else but we as fans need to back the manager and new owners to the hilt so we can be successful. This commitment goes hand in hand that the owners/directors show the fans the same ambition and respect. My opinion has not changed from what I said a couple of days ago the SPD is the most important appointment as they will set the tone for the rest of the club to follow and work hand in hand with the manager to achieve the clubs ambitions.
We don't need a big name manager we need a manager with a vision and identity which is the same as the owners and the SPD/DOF. Everybody pulling in the same direction is what we need not infighting and backstabbing.
He has to be given the right tools to do the job..................all we have are the current Tools

I’d like to know who realistically people think we should go for instead of Cowley? Pearson was never going to work with a SpD and Poyet has fallen at the very last hurdle. Someone like Howe I would have but I’d imagine he’ll be waiting for a better opportunity. Cowley isn’t the big statement we were hoping for but is definitely an improvement on Parkinson. And this appointment does not mean its suddenly Donald and Rodwell picking the manager the fact Poyet wad so close should say it all.
It’s not just that mate it’s the bigger picture. I’d hoped/ read that new owners would be ambitious but not only that be serious business people on another level to Donald. Day 1 we’ve had safc dropping cryptic clues about poyet only for it to go tits up and our loyal kit man laid off on the same day and now we are appointing a manager it seems who has never been higher than 13th in the championship. Be honest, does it sound like everything has changed for the better or does it sound like the same shambles we have put up with the past two years?

He’s an average league one manager that’s why, he won’t get us up not a chance.

This appointment shows how poor we are as a club on and off the pitch - like I said also means takeover isn’t happening

This is getting ridiculous. You literally can’t jump to either of those conclusions and to do so is idiotic, I’m sorry.

This league is dog ****, and there is every chance that Cowley could get it promoted. In fact, it’s more than likely he could. Considering we were still in touching distance with Parkinson who was horrific.

And again, to conclude that the takeover isn’t happening because Cowley gets appointed is nonsensical. Explain that logic? New owners will have conducted interviews, looked at CV’s, and potentially decided Cowley, having been a success at the clubs he’s been at, and done a decent job in his first championship job, at a very young age, and potentially willing to work under a DoF, is the best candidate. It doesn’t in any way mean that no takeover is happening.

yes but that doesn't mean Rodwell steamrolled Sartori and KLD into appointing him against their will does it?
It was said when Parky was sacked that the new manager recruitment would be left to Rodwell. Looks like they’ve done exactly that. I suppose that’s part of his remit.

Nah he is, he's managed Betis, Athens, Bordeaux recently...huge name manager compared to the Parkinson's of league one.
a huge name compared to Parkinson:emoticon-0102-bigsm thats a high bar youre setting I wonder how many hundreds of managers meet your very low standards

If rodwell is picking the new manager and if it’s Cowley it means he will have

then yes it means the takeover won’t be happening or isn’t anywhere near completion how can people not see that?

well if that’s the case let’s get Steve Evans in as manager, if true it’s a very very underwhelming appointment

an upgrade yes 100% - much of an upgrade no

Pretty embarased by some of these reactions frankly.

Concord Rangers - three promotions up to their highest ever position
Braintree (one season) - took to highest ever league position
Lincoln - 2 promotions in 3 years to their highest ever league position
Huddersfield - took the team bottom of the table with 1 point in 7 games to safety. If the season only took place whilst he was manager they'd have finished 9th.

Forget anything else - he has a record of achieving or even over-achieving.

Is he perfect? No.

But people are acting like he's the worst choice in the world. Grow up.
