Not ITK but my theory on Gray is that once he got in touch with SD and NF, he was told / found out about the impending period of exclusivity with another party (we think FPP and friends). Gray backed off as a result and is happy to keep quiet about it considering that the new prospective owners would be good for the club and area. Had it been someone like Campbell about to enter the period of exclusivity, I don’t think Gray would have kept quiet.
I have thought and hoped this is the case, knows overall it's better for the club so has stood back. Time will tell I suppose but still hope he's waiting in the wings in case FPP can't get it over the line.

That's a decent theory tbf mate. I just thought it might of been with his group lol.

Makes perfect sense

Will always be the clubs badge to me. People say shipbuilding isn’t relevant these days but I’d say the area is defined by the lack of shipbuilding more than anything else, nothing has truly replaced it.

Would it be more appropriate to update the badge with pictures of call centres and Japanese people packing their bags?

The Bob Murray badge has survived because it doesn’t offend anyone but it’s not as powerful as Leeds old “Smiley Face” or the new Juventus badge. Wouldn’t mind something along those lines.
Oh no! That Leeds thing was cheap looking and would look more appropriate in a cartoon. The old Juve badge was a classy affair. If we're talking corporatism, that new thing is the epitome of it.

I would agree with this.

I like the new badge personally, I think it looks great and it has plenty of references to the area it's not like it's all flash no substance.
I've always thought that it would look far better with just the shield part. Bin the scroll, lions and everything else that surrounds it and have Sunderland AFC written on the middle gold line that runs across it.

A thing of beauty

Love to go back to this
One of my claims to fame is that I helped select this ship badge - well narrow it down to the three that were presented to the SAFC board. The badge was designed by a school friends dad who was high up in the Art Dept of what would have then been Sunderland Polytechnic.
He had about 20 designs, and anyone that went into his studio he asked which one they liked in order to gaugue opinion. This badge was my choice and I like to think I influenced him, but in reality I don't think he took much notice of a schoolboy.

He was spotted
He was a good footballer himself played a few games with him
But he’s got bad knees and also has a pyhisio place other side of Durham
He’s a good lad
I have probably played against you Vince, we won the Rose Bowl in 1985 & 1986 (dates might be a year out either way) and got through to the National finals 1987, beaten by Liverpool after extra time.
