Fingers crossed it all comes true. Current development around the city along side a football club with savvy owners that want the best for the football team and the area. Its all here..... just waiting. New badge? Upgrade or a fresh one?

I've always said that is our identity when we were a football club and the new badge is just a symbol of when the game became all corporate.

Aye it was a thing of beauty. We've had the coat of arms Crest 23 year. Still feels new.

I like the new badge personally, I think it looks great and it has plenty of references to the area it's not like it's all flash no substance.

I don't dislike the current badge, it's just I have less affinity to it compared to the ship badge but that's the one I grew up with whereas like I say, the current one reminds me of a time when the game has moved away from the 'common man' so to speak.

FPP’s pitch mentioned investment in the academy, player recruitment, SOL and “other infrastructure“

Donald decided to reject this in favour of selling off the youth team and neglecting the stadium. Presumably he thought that outside investment should’ve gone to him instead.

We've had the current badge for much longer than we had the previous one. And the previous one had at least 4 different versions that I can remember.

I dont mind the current one - I like that it symbolises more than just ships.

I can see what you mean, for me the current badge is all I've known pretty much so I don't associate it with any changes in the game. I just think it's a good looking badge with some canny references and I wouldn't be in any rush to change it.

I'd change things in other ways for sure and try to reconnect the club with the fans because we desperately need it.

I always felt like they tried a bit too hard with it. Can't really explain it, it just seems a bit too corporate "let's make sure we get all these different elements, a bit random Latin, let's make it look clever with all these bits that will look good explained on the website". I just liked the old simple ship badge. I'm a grumpy ****er who hates change of all kinds mind

Little bit yeah, I know what you mean. The Latin is a bit pretentious but it's better than "in pursuit of cost cutting and with a bit of luck not get relegated to league two"

Will always be the clubs badge to me. People say shipbuilding isn’t relevant these days but I’d say the area is defined by the lack of shipbuilding more than anything else, nothing has truly replaced it.

Would it be more appropriate to update the badge with pictures of call centres and Japanese people packing their bags?

The Bob Murray badge has survived because it doesn’t offend anyone but it’s not as powerful as Leeds old “Smiley Face” or the new Juventus badge. Wouldn’t mind something along those lines.

With the salary cap coming in, one of the differentiating things between clubs is going to be the proficiency of the owner, where as in the past it's been the depth of their pockets..Donald leaving if it happens is a necessity, he's out of his depth and neither can he take us on
Totally agree.. I've made the point about having a telephone on the badge before.

The call centres - although they employ many - are a poor replacement for what went on before. OK the shipyards and mines were not great places to work but much more of the money generated stayed up in the North East.

Agree, the new badge never really replaced the old badge for a lot of people. And as pointed out the new one has survived because there's nothing really wrong with it (and Bob Murray put it in the seats to make us accept it!). I think the new badge came out just before icons and thumb nails were considered important. The old badge might look better for that as it is simpler and might look better when smaller.

Not ITK but my theory on Gray is that once he got in touch with SD and NF, he was told / found out about the impending period of exclusivity with another party (we think FPP and friends). Gray backed off as a result and is happy to keep quiet about it considering that the new prospective owners would be good for the club and area. Had it been someone like Campbell about to enter the period of exclusivity, I don’t think Gray would have kept quiet.
