That's probably why the amount of penalties will increase with VAR, rather than the amount of tackles/fouls decreasing.

Defenders are, by and large, idiots.

Was it awarded by VAR?

No, referee gave it as normal. But it would surely have been, had the referee not given it.

The defender had both arms wrapped right around the striker. You shouldn't be thinking you can get away with that in a non-VAR world, let alone in a VAR world.

No, that's a logical break in dangerously hot conditions. Time outs are where things get critical (aka exciting) and the manager calls for a team talk. Imagine us getting on top against United with a few minutes to go and Mourinho announcing he wants to talk to his players. Allowed in most American influenced sports.

Or imagine we are on top against Man Utd with minutes to go and Mourinho gets himself sent off on the touchline, delaying our free kick and momentum. Oh hang on....

Quite likely. Should've been a golden generation, yet their best performance came in Euro 2016, where they bowed out in the Round of 16. Iceland must be feeling pretty good at the moment (Iceland doesn't appear to be capable of feeling anything but good).

Yeah we were unlucky to lose to Portugal who went on to win the tournament. We were really good that tournament, had the stars aligned differently it could've been us and not Portugal.

Today it was a scrappy win, but we can build on that. We'll be better against Argentina, Croatia is alway good as an underdog, it's our mentality, if we're expected to win we don't go all in. As for Iceland, I have no doubt that we will win that match.

Mmm I seem to recall another nation around here saying something similar...
