Yes, and we were **** and players still wanted to join us, even with the likes of Sexton and Atkinson in charge.

    It's different now because?

    Hello Reds,

    I can't understand Wayne Rooney.

He's playing at the most successful club in his native country.

Won pretty much everything with Manchester United but wants to move on?

What possible motivation outside of money could there be?

With Sir Alex, David Gill, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs & Paul Scholes eyeing the exit, is it like an exodus?

Rooney when on form is unstoppable and his partnership with Van Persie is just brilliant as we've seen this season, this season he was injured most of the time.

One of Moyes's first job is to keep Rooney and persuade him, i really hope he can persuade him to stay, i can't believe some people want him to go, he gives his all, when on form he is one of the best all round strikers, i just hope he can change his mind and i hope he does.

Its clearly a different period of time and football has changed somewhat since then.

He hasnt given his all this season, far from it in fact. He has sulked around like a petulant child. .

If we get ronaldo back Id happily see the back of him IF he wants to leave.

Wayne Rooney has removed the term "Manchester United player" from his Twitter page and replaced it with "NikeUK athlete".

If he wants to leave I've come to the point where it's bye bye Wayne. Sell him if playing for the greatest team in world football is too much.

Yes, playing for Manchester United is even more attractive now than it was back then.

Won everything possible at united so perhaps he wants a new venture/experience? He's getting far too much stick IMO, not as if he's a born and bred United fan either.

too much stick?? from us?? or the press?

Its all warranted. he wanted better players at the club when he held us to ransom, now we have his form has been off and cant get in the team. I think the lad is a prize twat always have. I'm happy for him to stay but he needs to pull his socks up. If he wants a new challenge then fair enough. He should come out and say it.

He has the potential to be a Utd legend and become the all time record scorer, he only needs another 53 (i think), another 3 seasons with 15-20 in each, so why would he want to leave? If he thinks he can do better I say go ahead, my patience is beginning to wear thin. He should be proud to play for the club and act with more maturity than he is currently showing.

I think Manchester United are on a downside spiral, their manager has retired and an average manager who has won nothing in his career has taken over, and now their best player wants to leave. I can see them missing out on the top four next season.

United fans, at this moment in time. He's been ****ing quality for United and like I said won everything with you. He's maybe not handling it the best way possible but nothing wrong with wanting a new challenge (if of course that's the reason he's wanting out)

I think being told he can gladly sod off if he thinks the grass is greener elsewhere is him getting off lightly to be honest.

    That's about what he deserves.

Do you think we should sit by whining and wailing as he cons his way to a new £300k a week contract or something?

if that is the reason he's making noises then of course he deserves stick, but seriously, I can't see him doing it for mercenary reasons.

New challenges? What other club would he be a starter at (which he will insist on being) and win more trophies at? Maybe he should step up for England, that's a challenge he's never really succeeded at.
