Gerrard was never a 'thinker' on the pitch to be fair. I do wonder why, if he sensed it, he didn't have a word with BR and the team? Strange thing for him to say really.

Yeah. I know it's natural. Her also wrote to be fair that he felt a deep personal responsibility for not winning the league that year. Doubt it hurt anyone on that team more than him. He's bound to have come away with a lot of "what ifs"

TBF to Gerrard, how do you say anything if your manager was giving a rousing speech that was supposed to lift spirits and rally the troops before the ultimate triumph?

As the captain, surely if you sense complacency, you make sure you it doesn't exist? I imagine Stevie was probably all too wrapped up in the moment himself tbh, as that was his type (and I wouldn't have had him any other way!!)

You maybe can't but you can do your own job and the job of captain on the pitch properly. He didn't because he's human. There were a few days between the Chelsea and City match though...

Edit: palace rather

That slip will plague him for years to come but I don't know a liverpool fan who has a bad word to say about it other than it was bloody unlucky.... But the real reason that we lost was how we went out to play.....which is why I am more surprised by his statement now.

Fergie had a decent scoring record I believe. Jose played near enough non league.

Oh I thought Jose played for Rio Ave, who are currently a top tier side. I might be wrong though.

And just checked, yeah Fergies record better than I thought <ok>

Fergie himself says he was never cut out to be a player. He was always trying to dictate and manage his team mates. He was a manager masquerading as a player. Was barely 30 when he got his first job and continued playing a few years after that.

The worst thing is hope (who said this?). And to have it snatched right at the last moment is cruel beyond belief. And Gerrard knows that. That is why apparently he cried after the match as he realised the implications of that defeat.

Yes, Gerrard slipped but the manager sets out how we were to play not the captain.

Well if that's accurate, that just about sums Gerrards captaincy up then. We all knew that BR was complacent. If Gerrard sensed it, why the f#ck didn't he do something about it?

This. If Gerrard sensed it as dos others why did they not take matters into their own hands. Once you cross the White line, the players are responsible not there manager. The players didn't have to go gung ho and Gerrard as captain could have helped dictate the tempo of the game.
