‘I’ve never been able to say this in public before but I was seriously concerned that we thought we could blow Chelsea away,’ Gerrard wrote in his autobiography, ‘My Story’.

‘I sensed an over-confidence in Brendan’s team talks. We played into Chelsea’s hands. I feared it then and I know it now.’

Well if that's accurate, that just about sums Gerrards captaincy up then. We all knew that BR was complacent. If Gerrard sensed it, why the f#ck didn't he do something about it?

He can buy Lovren back for you as well <laugh>

Yeah then he can play well for half a season and you can take him back double bubble! :P

It won't happen, we have ambition you see ;) Going for a football legend, European Cup & Euro Championship winner, aiming above our station <ok> whereas you lot went so far below with Rodgers <laugh>

Lol

Let's put the slip aside..could happen to anyone..And I'm sure he's got a point in there about our gung ho attitude (it got us within distance by the way). But I distinctly remember a certain captain thinking he was revisiting Istanbul post city match with his barbaric yalp or galavanting like he was a striker not the DM for the remaining minutes of the Chelsea match and the palace match leaving a great gaping hole in front of our defence. We've talked about a lack of leadership recently but this was really the low point of our captains career. When a calm mature head was needed he selfishly wanted to relive the glory of his youth one more time and save us single handedly.

I can forgive that if it was heat of the moment in the battle so to speak but I'll not accept this so called concern at the time from the one person who had any say where Rodgers was concerned.

So where was this calm intelligent thinking he's claiming when it actually mattered. More revisionism...How very disappointing.

All joking aside, when you lot got Koeman, I had to explain to my son who he was and what he'd achieved. He then asked me what BR had done as a player......I had to google it <laugh>

That said, even translators can make great managers, so it's not just about what you've achieved before <ok>

Yeah I know, I'm only messing about really, think it's a big thing for smaller clubs like us though when you've got that sort of name to pull players in. I imagine he's got more of a pull than Poch did for example. (or BR for you lot, though obviously can't really compare our clubs in that respect)

A lot of great managers were mediocre footballers.

Gerrard was never a 'thinker' on the pitch to be fair. I do wonder why, if he sensed it, he didn't have a word with BR and the team? Strange thing for him to say really.

TBF to Gerrard, how do you say anything if your manager was giving a rousing speech that was supposed to lift spirits and rally the troops before the ultimate triumph?
