Oh yes and this place is usually such a happy clappy bundle of joy. Sorry to lower the tone.

A miserable account it may be but I notice the target is the messenger. No one willing to refute the actual points being made.

Last night, 25,000 people enjoyed the nostalgia trip that a great entertainer took them on, yes it may be naff and a bit kitsch but, that's entertainment for you - it's obviously not your thing, but the world would be such a miserable place if it was full of those who couldn't see entertainment for what it is ........... i.e something to be enjoyed.

While it might be suggested that it's churlish to criticize such bread and circus servings of pre digested culture to audiences of little discrimination, it can hardly be denied that such overhyped spoonfeeding bears no comparison with the creative and attitude changing impact of the originals these tribute acts parasitize. Yes I am suggesting that Rod, and the rest of such establishment lovies are reduced to being no more than tribute acts to their former selves

Whenever I criticize these mock rock events It is often suggested that I shouldn't as they give so many people pleasure. Well I don't begrudge them their simple pleasures, but I very much resent the fact that the more this sort of tinsel and glitter substitute for the real force that music once was is so gratefully swallowed by the masses, most of whom would have been adoring Abba and The Osmonds when Rod was actually a relevant artist, the more this **** will be shoveled onto us.

If this trend continues,it can't be too long before we are being offered tribute acts to tribute acts. Thankfully, you might agree, I won't be around to see it.

Such concerts are the musical equivalent of pink slime. The more the gratefully indiscriminate gobble it up, the harder it becomes for the rest of us to find proper food.

Never read so much pretentious drivel regarding music since Chris Welch was coming out with his weekly dose of rubbish in the music papers.

The answer is simple, listen to what you enjoy and let others enjoy what they want instead of coming out with the sort of psychobabble that a failed social worker would spout.

I have no doubt that people could have fun dissecting and mocking your musical favourites.

Didn't stop the predictable miserable bar steward ringing RH this morning to complain about 'all the noise at 11.00pm'

there were a load of online whingers at the time too. i was nearby and watched from a distance what was a pretty good display.

You must remember that to a lot of folk in Hull 11pm is an ungodly hour when all good folk should have finished their Horlicks and be tucked up in bed. They yearn for a return to pubs shutting at 10.30 pm, 10pm on a Sunday.

A very good critique Pipkin minor. You should easily achieve C+ in your English Lit.

You don't have to keep on - we all get the picture, your superiority shines through, thanks for giving us an insight into the world of a superior being. I say superior being but what I really mean is an obnoxious, pompous and graceless ****.

The message not the messenger, the contents not the form.
Rod is way past his best, his voice is ****ed, but he has evolved into a veteran status of what he was, and he's done that reasonably well, with self-deprecation and self-awareness, and retaining his humour and bonhomie.
It would be great if we could get headlining new acts at the KCOM instead of the old bastards, but as a club
we signed Carter, Morty, Bremner and Barmby etc when they were all past their best...so we should be used to it.

Rather ironic that someone pontificating about his superior tastes in music has as a user name one of the most awful songs ever inflicted on an undeserving public.
