Doesn't make it more difficult Kempton - it's like this - player can run down contract then leave fior nothing ... but that means that he has to see contract out that could be 6, 9 even 18 months of a remaining contract - he could do this sulking in the reserves or not giving 100% - therefore not a great deal of anything in it for the selling club - clubs trying to attract him then potentially pay more on wages when he eventually joins them because there is no transfer fee - but player is also older by the time he can leave therefore buying club contract might not be as long as it would have been if he had been able to join earlier.
If, however, he signs an extension to his existing contract then the buying club pays a transfer fee measured on the new contract - but potentially less on wages - the player gets to move straight away and may have either lucrative bonuses built into the new contract or the promise of renogiation on wages etc in 6 to 12 months depending on success etc ..
The cost to the buying club is likely to be around the same sum of money in either scenario - but if the selling club manges to persuade the player and his agent to go for option 1 then they get a bigger slice of the overall sum on offer

Although I agree that Fryatt is a good striker at this level and a valuable asset, I don't think you've made great points to argue the case.
Firstly, the whole 'feeding off scraps' thing, I don't know where this has come from. I'm sure Fryatt will have had as many chances last season as almost any other striker in the league. Only whilst Koren was out did his service really dry up. Secondly, Campbell wasn't here for a full season so managing 15 in 34 is better than Fryatt's 16 in 46. I really like Fryatt, but I do think he's a form player and tends to score 10 in 10 and then none in the next 10, it can be frustrating. Despite this, I wouldn't put it past him to get 20 this season with Proschwitz aalongside him.

I don't dispute any of what you said, especially that we've struggled for goals for years. 16 goals is good enough for me, but it's the epic frustration factor as well with Fryatt. I've discussed it a lot on here so some will be bored of seeing me talk about it again so apologies to those people but I have been asked. It's the ridiculously consistent misses from 1-on-1s where he doesn't even get a shot off, regardless of the quality of the opposition (anyone who went to Ferriby or Winterton will know what I mean) in particular, but also the way he looks like a sulky 5 year old when it isn't going for him and disappears for large patches of games. My 'except when he isn't' comment was pointing at this, when he goes 3 months at a time without scoring and no one even notices. I wouldn't feel the need to complain about it so much if it wasn't that other players just don't get the same leeway. Every time Fryatt walks a 1-on-1 chance all the way to the keeper and doesn't get a shot off, people say it's a one-off, but he does it every time and gets away with it constantly. On top of that, when he does shoot it's always a scruffy little slide across the floor rather than a proper strike with conviction. I'm perfectly happy with a striker scoring 16 goals, but I'll still complain when he ****s up chance after chance to make it 17 or more. There isn't a City player who has me slumped back in my seat in frustration at a horribly wasted opportunity more often than Fryatt.
I agree that he needs to stay because he's a decent player overall, but I just don't find him reliable in front of goal at all.
@Airlie Tiger - I don't do windups and I don't really dislike any City player but I do think Fryatt is over-rated. See above.

The thing that niggles at me istplt (it would'nt be a bad thing if you changed your user name,it's a bit of a mare) is seemingly game in game out,you have a pop at Fryup. Yet the rest of the team escape untouched in your appraisal. The likes of Stewart for instance,seem to be on your blind side. No offence,but i really don't get you.

It's quite the opposite, I always challenge why people think Fryatt is so great even after a game when he's missed several chances because I can't understand why I'm the only one who noticed. Against Bristol City at home for example, he had 4 1-on-1 chances and missed the first 3 then eventually rounded David James and scored his first goal in 3 months. I was glad he finally got out of that spell and got his goal but I couldn't help think he should have had 4 goals that game but it was completely ignored by the many. Stewart gets his fair share of criticism when he has a poor game and I generally agree with what's been said so there's no need for me to argue with anyone.
I know OLM in particular really doesn't like me saying this, but I think people have a tendency to get an opinion on a player and associate it with his name no matter what happens so if Fryatt has a **** game he is still Fryatt so he is still good, or if McLean scores a good goal he is still McLean so he is still **** and it was a fluke.
Also, I know my user name is **** but I always find it hard keeping track of who is who when they change names so I wont be doing it any time soon.

With you there buddy - had to have an operation aged 19 with a fancy Latin name ('pesanthrinus' transfer - phonetically) - similar to what Kevin Beattie and Gazza had I recall - pulls tendon from one side of the knee to t'other to support knee - ended my professional ambitions, although did get offered a trial with Tranmere at 24 (I looked younger and they had no idea of my medical history!!) ... still - op was successful enough for me to carry on playing at fair standard until late thirties, so can't complain ...

I think Fryatt is currently the best striker at the club, and 16 goals in a team that barely scored all season is incredible, but I do believe he squanders chance after chance before he finally bags, if I remember the first game of the season against Blackpool, they had barely any chances, all it took was Gary Taylor-Fletchers goal to win, yet we had **** loads of opportunities, Barmby missed a sitter and so did Simpson, but what stood out the most was Fryatt's inability to just tap a 1 on 1 in, he must of had 5 1 on 1s on the opening day of the season, yet we lost 1 nil, Bristol City at home was another good example, we won 3 nil but it could of been 6 nil if Fryatt took his chances, he really could get 25+ if he was a clinical finisher, 30+ with a target man like Proschwitz
That's more or less my thoughts. 16 goals is good but it won't make me ignore the 3 or 4 per game which he should score but doesn't. I still think he's a good player overall and I still want him to stay, but based on what I've seen of Simpson in pre-season I'd like to see him given a run up front.
Fryatt scores more goals that the rest of our strikers combined, he does miss chances, but he only gets those chances because he gets into much better positions and is much better on the all than any of our other strikers.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Prossy and Fryatt together and if we get a winger who can cross, I think we'll be laughing.

His off the ball movement is quality, he can break offside traps easily, he just needs to score within his first or at least second clear cut opportunity, I believe he is still relatively young, if he's consistent and clinical this season, we'll get promoted through his and Nick's goals
