Football rivalries are fluid on which league we are in, currently I most hate Lincoln. There are many other dislikes but they aren't club rivalries eg I've never seen City play Celtic but I still hate them.
For me, because I grew up listening to City on Humberside, Saturday afternoon & as someone was talking on the sports show, they had a little jingle, “and it’s there!” Crowd noises. It meant one of the local games had a goal, it always excited me, but then it would turn out to be John Tonder saying Clive Mendonca had just scored for Grimsby, but it did make me a little interested how they did & Scunny, so don’t have that real hatred. I used to hate Scarborough when they kept beating us, but again have a soft spot for them, being where I lived for a few years, the way they went out of the league & subsequently went under. So my teams I don’t like is Leeds, Wednesday, Sheff U, Liverpool & Chelski. For different reasons, not rivalries. I class rivalries as a team we play regularly, but don’t really hate as such.
You must be relieved to get that off your chest. If every one of your statements was a question - the answer is no to all of your questions and statements. Your mantra seems inevitably to be "Don't agree with my opinion, you're ****ing wrong". You must live a lonely life - other views have value and validity. Is there any other sport you have an affinity for ?
I follow FC's results but football is my game. I'd rather watch the rugby union anyway (it's Harlequins for me, lads)
Oi I've always supported both. City & FC that is. As I've got older I don't mind Rovers winning either, just not against FC.
I realise people started supporting City in different eras, but regardless of that the answer is the Blunts. If you think different, you’re wrong FACT
Like I said, it depends on your reasons. I started supporting City in the 90s, so Grimsby and Scunthorpe for me were always bigger games, for a long time I couldn’t even see us playing either Sheffield team competitively. I was at the LDV Vans game that Scunthorpe knocked us out in. That still stings, and it’ll still hurt more than us getting done by Leeds on Wednesday.
I know Just down to when you started going. Getting bricked & having a knife pulled on me in and round Bramhall Lane (although to be honest it was them beating us that was worse) shaped my hatred. That night(mare) at Turf Moor cemented it. I’m cool with City fans hating any other clubs!
That's exactly it. I've heard the horror stories of trips to Bramall Lane, it sounded ****ing awful. I can't remember if it was Torquay or Plymouth, but I seem to remember one of those had a set of ****er fans as well. Might have been Torquay as we were competing with them for the Division Three title.
I am speaking from my own experiences. Obviously you won't be as aware of some of them on the other side of the Atlantic. I like rugby, both codes, though I prefer union. Don't like cricket or any American over-hyped sports though. Looking forward to a fight where a game of ice-hockey breaks out?
Your last sentence sums it up. Which is why people's thoughts on who are rivals or who they hate, which could be one or both, depend on your age and teams and fans you had experiences with. I say I hate Leeds but it isn't so much a case of not liking the club but the twats who support them who have no connection with Leeds, especially Hull Whites andEast t Yorks Whites and specifically ones who support one of the rugby teams and TWS and are happy to see their local football team lose.
They should also be top of the list of clubs Hull City fans dislike given they were mentioned in the very first reply to the OP, before any football club!
I don't think we have any true derbies or rivalries, most of the clubs we supposedly dislike almost always dislike their own rivals more than us. Then there's our local rivals (Scunny, Grimsby...etc.), all of which hop divisions frequently (as do we), so haven't we played them regularly for the best part of 30 years.
