According to SSN, it looks like Di Canio is going to be the next manager at Sunderland. He is currently up there having talks about a 2 year deal. Replacing O'Neill with Di Canio is a big gamble to make, I don't think I would want Spurs to do such a thing.

Raise your hand if you want to take over from Martin O'Neill.

Edit: It's now confirmed. Hope they go down.

Di Canio now confirmed on a 2.5 year deal. The circus has come to town. I think this is an insult to MON and I hope they go down.

It's either an inspired decision, or a complete disaster. Time will tell, but given that Di Canio has no managerial experience at anything like this level, I'd lean towards the latter.

Labour MP David Miliband has resigned from his role on the board of Sunderland FC because of newly appointed manager Paulo Di Canio's "past political statements".

Apparently, he admits to being a fascist, but denies being a racist? I'm not sure how that works, but it's an interesting take on fascism!..

  8. Sunderland could well overtake 'Pool as being the most racist club in the country.

From now on, "the stadium of light" will become "the stadium of the white knights."

I wouldn't be surprised if Kenny-boy turned up as Director of Football, at some point.

I'm not sure fascism absolutely necessitates racism but seeing as the vast majority of fascist regimes a) have repression/outright hostility towards an 'inferior' race as a central part of their rhetoric and b) emphasise nationalism, which is nearly always associated with the usually racist creation of an 'other' for the people to identify themselves against then it's absolutely fair to say that the vast, vast majority of fascist people/states are also inherently racist. I suppose it's maybe technically possible for a fascist not to be racist but it's never going to happen really is it.

I'd like to see Di Canio in the Prem, see if he can live up to his own hype. Perhaps he's almost a Mourinho type in so far as Mourinho often seemed to be taking the spotlight onto himself to take the media attention away from his players at key moments. Of course this may have just been an excuse for him being an egotistical twat. I guess we now get the chance to see!

    Basically. <whistle>
Miliband's virtually a Tory anyway, so I'm guessing it's the new job in the USA and Di Canio's support for a murdering, torturous dictator which might've pushed it too far.
    One that's not Thatcher...

Is it possible to 'support' a dead man?

Il Duce was a tree hugging environmentalist.

I bet Reading are regretting hiring Adkins too, if they's waited a week longer they could've got O'Neill.

It means we can play a stronger team in the away leg against Basel too. I'm guessing it will be re-arranged for Wednesday with the City game on the Sunday after an away trip in the EL. I think that will benefit us well and City will also be playing their 3rd game in a week against us whilst we'll be playing our 2nd. Not huge advantages but it could be a small benefit to us in the run in.
