SSN: Whelan's massive mistake is believed to be a dive by the Stoke fans, who think Modric dived, but it was a stone wall kick by the Ireland man and Spurs will be confident of getting back into this now.
BBC: Some Stoke fans are convinced that was a Luka Modric dive by the look of things and the atmosphere in the Britannia is hot. For me, it was a stonewall penalty.

Clearly kicks his standing leg. Foul.

we're going to have to agree to disagree, not really a blatant kick, I still don't think he touched him.

I see Drogs has it competly wrong,he should give up now,and go to specsavers

or maybe you should actually add valid input to an argument for once instead of sitting on the sidelines throwing little digs at anyone who ain't a Spurs fan? Just a thought.

as much as you like as long as you don't defend Bale in the process :)

(notice how I have not denied Hazard being a diver/going down easily/however much you want to butter it up once here)

...and regarding Bale, I've not defended him as a saint, notice we haven't contested one of said five! :)

no just on the ones I come into contact with, from various teams, and ones on this forum <doh> Only spurs fans think he's a saint.

So categorically NOT the majority of football fans then. Which is what you claimed. Here, have it back <doh>

To be fair Notso, it would be a bit hard to! <laugh>

To be fair to him, I think it's understandable that he was expecting to get a kick. Still a deserved booking though, obviously.
Defoe's against Sunderland, on the other hand:

<laugh> so was the movement of the Stoke players right just taking a step! of course its a blatant kick, ok he didn't follow through, but has still made contact just below shin pad level, its enough to disturb Mods next placement of that leg....its generally known as a foul!

What needs to happen for you then, does his tibia need to be sticking out of his sock for a justifiable foul!

Stoke made little issue of it, odd you disagree with them!

Don't get technical/smart <laugh>. Bale is criticised for diving a LOT was my point.

So what? Terry criticised a lot for being a total racist scumbag, does that mean that you have to believe that he is, too?
Does popular belief suddenly mean that something's true or is that a bog standard fallacy? (Argumentum ad populum.)

Didn't really wanna get into the Modric thing, shouldn't have brought it up really but again you're being technical and stop taking what I say literally! <laugh>. Ok he made a kicking motion, to get the ball, but he didn't make contact.

Nope, but I can see where people are coming from as he's not exactly someone I'd invite to a dinner party. Totally different situation too btw, Bale dives and has been caught diving on numerous occasions. I used to get embarrassed when people defended Drogba, much like you are doing here.

Bale hasn't been caught diving on numerous occasions, though. He's been caught on a handful of occasions and wrongly accused of it on several others.
The best example is probably the Wales v Scotland game, where he was called a diver by all and sundry, despite the player that fouled him admitting that he'd done it! <laugh>

I'm not defending Bale, anyway. I've repeatedly criticised his diving and I've done it several times on this thread today.
He's clearly being incorrectly punished for it this season, though. He's been booked more times for simulation than any other team, FFS.
As for getting us penalties, we actually haven't had one in the league and have only had one in all competitions, which Walker won.

by caught, I meant by other fans aswell as Referees meaning he wasn't necessarily booked. Like you said before regarding Drogba!

And like I indicated with the comment about the Wales v Scotland game.
He was "caught" diving in that game too, until the defender admitted to fouling him.

The funny thing is that I never called Hazard a diver. There's a blurry grey area between diving without contact or diving and then starfishing to gain contact and being taken out by a foul. When Bale goes down under what's perceived as minimal contact he's apparently rightly booked for diving, yet in other instances we'll hear stupid phrases like "there's just enough contact", "he had a right to go down". My problem with Hazard is that whilst most players will go down easy from time to time, Hazard goes looking for it nearly all the time.

This penalty early in the season set the tone for Hazard. Was there a poor tackle? Yes but the contact is minimal and Hazard goes flying with both feet in the air. He's done it a lot, particularly at the start of this season and whilst he's not won many of the decisions I don't like to see it and as Hazard's one of the biggest offenders I dislike him in particular for it. Bale gets booked for it and even when he's taken out.

Really it's a symptomn of poor refereeing and everyone being prepared to excuse it but Hazard, like Suarez plays like throwing yourself to the floor is part of the game.

From FIFA's Laws of the Game 2012:

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• trips or attempts to trip an opponent

Learn the rules before coming here young man! :D

...now then, what was that you were saying about a dive?

you appear to have ignored what I said about meaning to kick the ball.... old man ;)

I think Maloney's words were something like 'there might have been a little contact'.

oh and for the record, I thought Bale had dived v Scotland at the time but as you say, the player confirming it isn't something that can be argued really. I think Bale ran across him and they caught each other, whether that's a foul or not is different question though.
