All true but then surely you have to ask, is it likely that Di Maria and Falcao would have many suitors? I believe its very likely the answer was yes.

Speculation that the clubs interested in one or the other were real madrid, barcelona, city, psg, juventus, liverpool, arsenal, Chelsea and tottenham. Not a bad list really.

Only 1 put the money up for Falcao though mate (and I don't mean the loan fee)

FFP probably had an influence over that as well, as I'm sure City or PSG would have hoovered him up otherwise

Martinez didn't spend all the Fellaini cash and we then had the incremental TV cash this summer. Previous years of prudence allowed us to spend a good chunk of it - I'm told we still have a good chunk left as well.

You've bene saving for the last 20 years... should have a good few million in the bank <whistle>

Could go for Falcao next year, then.

That just proves that you were the only ones profligate enough to pay the asking.

You're talking about it like they had loads of suitors but turned them all down to go to utd - only the first part of that is true. There probably isn't a club that wouldn't want them but every one of them said a big fat 'no' to the financials .... except utd ... so you basically got them by default!

Yes but not at £58m

True. A lot of clubs were 'interested' in Andy Carroll when he was at Newcastle. We were the only ones actually willing to pay what Newcastle were asking for though, and that was why the deal looked terrible in hindsight.

He wanted out of france so psg would have had no chance.

By all accounts city had him a day before deadline day.

Mendes played a big role in both coming to United. Hes always helped players move to united and is probably the number one football agent around.

Plus maybe the players just want to achieve something at united instead of elsewhere. It used to be a case of joining united to take part in winning. We could sign anyone and keep winning. Pretty good selling point asking them to lead a new united. These modern footballs seem to like a 'project'... <laugh>

Theres plenty of sides in that list who could have afforded both. The players chose united though.

They must feel a year out isnt the end of the world.

Falcao who spent his prime years at Monaco? Don't try and pretend he's not in it for the money

Bollocks.

The reason he wanted to leave was because Monaco have changed their strategy slightly and were selling off their expensive players. Had just sold his International team mate and his friend and probably thought was nothing left staying in Monaco for, if he can get someone to match his ridiculously high wages/take home pay.

If it was between PSG who can offer him CL football this year, or United that can't... pretty sure would only be one winner there.

If City wanted him, they would have got him. Simple fact is, many might have been interested but you were the only one to make a firm offer. Pretty clear Madrid was where he wanted to go.

Good God UIR im sick of seeing your whining and tears here fella

We think he's a good signing but question the money + his injury (as did Real or he'd be there and if he does well for you will pro end up there?)

We would have done the same (question big money + injury) had we signed him as well. When we were linked, some of us did exactly this

You obv signed him, well done on being the club out of all mentioned who decided to throw the most cash at him. Here is your award

A blue ribbon? Can't think that'll go down well with the Red side of Manchester <whistle>

It may well be the case. My opinion on it is, so ****ing what. Similar to what tobes said re everton, weve been very conservative for years, a net spend lower than about 5 rivals yet a trophy cabinet bursting... Are we not allowes to spend for once?

Again, maybe they just wanted to come. Mendes can benpretty persuasive. Its why he earns more than most players. Van gaals stock was very high after the world cup so maybe he had some pull. Weve also got a massive **** off stadium thats always full. Lots of boxes ticked at united.
