That surprised me. I remember that game but would have thought he scored more than that against us as he was often the stand out player no matter who he was playing for. A lot of us wouldn't have minded signing him at the time.
rip ernie moss. a lower-league legend. 40 years ago i'd never given much thought to going to watch football matches. thanks to mother's job training of many years earlier, we had family friends living in derbyshire, folk who we saw every year and stayed with, or they stayed with us, and we knew better than most extended family members. on at least a couple of visits over there, i tagged along to saltergate with the younger daughter. i'd been to boothferry park a handful of times, but alone. these saltergate visits included some instruction. i know i saw ernie at least once. he was revered. in many ways, watching a team that isn't yours is kind of liberating because you don't have the related feelings, though i suspect they soon start to grow. it wasn't much later that i started at bp, and discovered a group of people i knew. i used to change standing place in each half for a better view when we scored, so i'd stand with these people for half the game. but, yeah, rip ernie.
Mike Smith, former manager 83. Big money appointment by City at the time said to be in the region of £500,000. Also reported that we beat Arsenal to his appointment, somehow I doubt that. Nice bloke, did well with Wales but did nothing with City. His appointment Bankrupt the club.
As you said, nice bloke but not cut out to be a club manager. Spoke to him a few times and he was willing to give you the time of day. Even when I encountered him parking his car on the way to a stormy meeting at (I think YPI) he chatted on the way there. Myself and Ollie had photos with our kids, both less than a year old, with him and Keith Edwards at the Open Day. The Keithy ones got shown around a bit. The Mike Smith ones not so much. Hard to believe how much time has passed since then. RIP Mike
Signed one of our best ever goalkeepers Tony Norman, maybe Whitehurst? (I know Nick Deacy) Had the nucleus of our great mid 80's team coming up from the juniors, Roberts, Marwood, MaClaren, but yes it was Smith Out Needler Out from me. RIP Mike Smith.
Hugo Milan - 14 yr old rider killed in a European Talent Cup race; high-sided his bike and then hit by another as he got up off the track. Tragic - RIP.

He was a tremendous bowler but played only 30 tests for England as he was around at the same time as Botham and Willis and rarely got a look in. Very economical and took lots of wickets for Derbyshire on the county circuit. RIP Mike.
Joey Jordison, former drummer from metal band, Slipknot. I'm not into metal but his drumming is incredible.
I saw them play, in of all places, Las Vegas in 2002. They were superb, mainly blues music at which they excel. The best bit I remember was a number of people lighting up joints, so I was inhaling deeply as much as possible. The missus couldn't as she was pregnant at the time!
I’m trying to remember a story about them I think they heard the saying I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole! When they first played over here. So wrote a song about it I hope I’m right?
