Not much point in going too far on these threads. But there is this to ponder when looking at the finances of the UK.
There are well over three hundred fully operational QUANGOS in the UK. They largely get money, and spend it. Very little oversight is employed, and I can say from my own experience working with them in the past, (trying to work would be better) that they are slow moving, appear to love delays, are replete with very well enumerated people whose roles are Ill defined, if defined at all in some cases and have bureaucracies which grow, like a fungus, by the year.

Successive governments have, for decades promised to cull these, then once in power, create more. Around thirty more in the last year.
They are responsible for over half of all government spending at over £300bn a year. If genuine, serious savings cannot be made from that, we are in so much trouble there is virtually no long term hope for the functioning economic survival of the UK.
