Cafe if you read my post re what a supporter is, it's just that a supporter is a supporter full stop. No one can define what it is that makes someone better than an other, no matter what the subject.
I have already posted that I will be watching the match on the box. I would have preferred to travel up and go to the game independently. But I will not be going anywhere. Challenge me on why and I will only say that it is personal and family business and none of yours.
The boycotting of a game that is on the telly is in my view just a reason for some to big themselves up. "I boycotted the match but watched it on the telly" is hardly militant is it." So it does matter if I say that I would have gone on the march and boycotted the match does it, I cannot go end of. And I will not label any group. Youshould think on as you are treading on people's toes and they might label you as bad as the WYP they label our as high risk and you only just avoid the word scab.

In fact your posts read like a Barbra Cartland novel. Bad boss, hero with a limp saves pretty poor girl and everyone lives happily ever after.

It's a good job they weren't at a Chelsea match, one month prison sentence, six year banning orders, then a ten year ban from attending Stamford Bridge.

The guidelines issued to the courts, advise that a three year banning order should be automatic for anyone who sets of a flare/smoke bomb/firework at a football match, or is found with a one in their pocket, or even if they are near a ground with one in their pocket and are assumed to be attending a football match(ie they also have a match ticket).

If the flare/smoke bomb/firework is thrown onto the pitch, there's a recommendation that you get put away for a month too.

Seems somewhat over the top to me, but having only the option of three year bans(or above), for all football offences, is in itself ridiculous.

As an alternative, some lads are looking to use LED safety flares instead...

Melu.I have not stated you must join the protest or that all working class people are good and rich people bad.
I know wine is wine but some is said to much better than others(as in my view that their are better fans of city than me,I also think this is reflected with the sale of limited tickets to big matches.I also realise finances/family can put their ability to follow their passions beyond them).
I had already gathered you have experience within police authorities.This may explain your difficulty with having your opinions challenged
AS for your comments yesterday about gay couples I suggest you check out "gays in the military" by Bill Hicks.Just as it its none of my business what your family circumstances are it is even more none of your business what someones sexual orientation happens to be.oh yeah -a shopkeeper is just that-no other label needed thanks
 
I don't think that's really the point though, is it?

The game is being boycotted by people who are not prepared to have the police make them get on coaches and be escorted in and out of a game.

It's not about militancy, it's about not being treated as a criminal when you've done nothing wrong.
 
Cafe, the writers of soaps in the past ten years have included the group called the "gay mafia" a group that wrote in to scripts an idealistic view of life in this country that meant all soaps had a positive gay story line. My neighbours are a gay couple, I don't have aroblem with that, but the story lines of soaps still to this day never have a gay man as a crook or a murderer as far as I can recall. Instead of showing that the gay community is normal they paint an idealistic view. Asians are always shopkeepers of some sort and white middle aged men have affairs all over the place and turn into killers at the drop of a hat. Therefore all football fans are young violent thugs just looking for trouble, if you believe the WYP. But in reality the whole of society is present at football. I oppose the tv soap imagery of this country and WYP view of football supporters in particular.
I have never been part of the Police. In 16 years I have been arrested 20 times, always because the officers concerned do not know the law and they make basic mistakes. I have never been charged but I have had to appear and represent myself in court. I lose my capability to work if I am convicted of any offence other than motoring. That is why the actions of the WYP are so wrong, they label me and restrict my travel because of my support of a football club. My real question would be. What evidence do you have WYP. There is none and that is what's wrong.

Its a very valid point, the pre conceived stereotype is perpetually reinforced by the media. Take for example the incident close to home on Ladies Day (arf) at Bev races. There were more arrests on ONE DAY than there were in the entire season at City yet it was hailed as a success by HUmberside Police and event organisers with positive media coverage yet when City vs MIllwall sees zero arrests the media decide to rake up over old ground to fill the page. You just know that the HDM were absolutely gutted that this particular game went off incident free.

So it begs the question - will there be an escourted police presence for race goers attending Beverley Races this year?
 
People just want to go to a football match to watch their team as they do every week

Sadly WYP have not allowed this to happen . We can argue amongst ourselves but don't lose site of the real villains here

The best response would have been for the club to refuse all tickets . As they didn't then it is up to individuals to do as they see fit

My personal feeling is not to accept been treated as a criminal when I have done nothing wrong

I saw a film where they show a learned medical man as a cannibal.
I think they should ban all Beverley races if they can restrict us with a good behaviour record cos Leeds and Cardiff do not get on.or would it make more sense to simply police it better and stop a few people before they get

to the stroppy side of drunk

I like the idea of the LED flares. Didnt the Ulltras have theirs confiscated by stewards though? Along with electronic cigarettes?

One old bloke near me even had his hip-flask confiscated because he took a swig from it at half-time on a freezing cold night match!

They did, but the club have no issue with them and are hoping to not only let them into the ground, but are even trying to sort a room for them to store them in, so they are permanently in the ground(along with their flags). As Bob once said, the times they are a changing.
 
I do struggle to understand why folk want pyrotechnics at a crowded sporting event. Flare or smoke bomb, both are designed to for reasons far removed from creating a vibrant sporting atmosphere. In the wrong hands and in the wrong circumstances, which cannot be predicted in a dynamic sports crowd, both of these devices are dangerous. Give them legality and everyone the right to carry and use then you could have thousands available in a confined space. It’s madness to endorse them; you don’t have to Google too hard to find fatalities from flares. Like it or not there are fools out there and simple rules can go some part to making those fools less dangerous.

It does become clear that there might be some who use these threads for their own political purposes, they hijack every topic and use dismissive, last word diktat to have their way. Their intelligence shines through in a very dim way.

Flares can be dangerous but then again they are seen at football grounds throughout Europe

You are essentially saying anybody who doesn't agree with your opinion isn't very intelligent

Edit . A smoke bomb isn't a flare , the HDM talking about the Bradford fire was ridiculous as well
