Sea Pigeon was 7th in the Derby, before winning the Champion Hurdle twice. I think he also won some big handicaps on the flat. Im sure he won the Ebor
Was it Aurelius, he won the St Leger, and I'm sure he won the champion hurdle only to be disqualified by the stewards. That's as close as I can get.
Oddy done me ! ! ! I know he won a classic but was he not disqualified after passing the post first ?
Didn't Royal Gait win the Prix Cadran in France, that isn't a classic. He also won the Ascot Gold Cup in 1988, only to be disqualified by the stewards for no reason whatsoever
True Oddy. I remember standing in the Bula stand (remember that ?) with friends showing my displeasure at a G1 flat horse thieving one of jump racings most coveted prizes as I was on my way down to collect my winnings....
Can't remember the Bula stand Grizzly (I had my first visit to Cheltenham this year aged 42 ) but I do remember the Bula Hurdle - I think it's the International now?
The Bula stand was literally a green wooden shack that was virtually on the win line. They built half of the grandstand years and years ago, the other half they only constructed in the 90's. This stand seemed so out of place at the festival, they rightly ripped it down in the early 90's and extended the granstand to match the existing construction. I remember piggy backing on Ken Bridgewater RIP in that stand after Winnie the Witch won the County Hurdle, delighted with my 33/1 voucher he turned to me and said two things: 'I have no idea who you are but well done for finding the best horse in the race, and you really should have found the 40/1 widely available down there.....'
