Off-topic, but reference the closure of Birmingham's racecourse in 1965. That dealt me a severe blow to my pocket. I was just learning the ropes so to speak and was following the "horses for courses" theory. My all time best horse to follow was a fairly average animal named Black Diamond. He only ever won at Birmingham, and at prices ranging from 4-1 to 25-1, I was coining it, in my own small way. Then they closed Birmingham and he never won again as far as I know! I'm sure I'll come up with a quiz question soon - give me time
We've taken a trip back in time, and for the context if this question it is now 2008 (this was when I first heard of this bit of trivia). I am a Champions League winner, a Uefa Cup winner, a Premier League winner, a Serie A winner, an Olympic Gold Medalist, and I have been relegated from the Premier League but never played in the Championship. Who am I?
Woooohooo Toppy Might it be Kanu? Or is it a trick question and the real answer is Sea The Stars or something equally bizarre??!!
Ok - here is one that may be a bit easy for some of you oldies Name the 1960's trainer who's horses all had (seemingly) Turkish names and were mainly rubbish. He famously ran one in the Derby - it finished last at 1000-1. An extra point for naming the horse
Give us a clue (eg another horse that ran in the same Derby). I have no idea and, seemingly, no way of finding out.
I can't look that up from here in the office, but here's a quote by Julian Wilson, describing the said trainer .... “He wore a battered trilby hat, smoked incessantly through a cigarette-holder, scattering ash indiscriminately, wrote unintelligible poetry and was quite the dottiest man that I had ever met!” And he died in 1999 RIP
I'm trying to find out something about Mikey Heaton Ellis to see if it was him. If it isn't you could save me some time. Forget that, it's John Meacock
Maybe this Derby fact is wrong (according to Janabelle) but I'm sticking with Vakil-ul-Mulk as his Derby runner.
