Easy one: Although beautifully bred, Nearctic, the sire of Northern Dancer, really had only one claim to fame during his actual racing career. What was it?
Think so, the sire of Northern Dancer is the one I mean: Nearctic (01Jan54 br h) Nearco (ITY) — Lady Angela I (Hyperion ) He raced in Canada, and then stood at the Woodbine Stud of E.P.Taylor (there's a clue there somewhere!).
That's the one. Canadian Horse of the year, sired Northern Dancer. He was out of the Irish mare Lady Angela, a daughter of the British Champion sire Hyperion. He was sired by the extremely important stallion Nearco. Same one.
OK Ron, your answer is good enough. I was going on just memory and had forgotten that Nearctic was a brilliant racehorse in his own right. I do, however, remember once reading that "Nearctic's only claim to fame was that he held the mile track record at Woodbine". Now, after reading the summary clip you posted, this was obviously a most unfair comment. So, correct!
He won the inaugural Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes on Kempton's all-weather track which gave him an automatic qualification for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs What fantastic filly was beaten by 8l on her 2yo début in a 2 horse race and then won the Free Handicap, 1,000 Guineas, Epsom Oaks, Sussex Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks and Champion Stakes?
I've asked this one before (on Old 606), so lets see who can remember the answer. How many sons of the late Dubai Millennium are at stud? Name them and the studs they stood at for the 2011 season.
I know one off the top of my head (Echo of Light) and, as it was the Sheik's favourite son of DM, I'm guessing he has kept him there.
