Happy has posted a comment on Obi's page. It pretty succinctly cover my position. Basically, I'm willing to give AA the benefit of the doubt and see what comes of it - nothing ventured nothing gained. The basic marketing logic behind the idea is sound, but that's not to say it'll work here. He's paid a shed load of money for the club and stuck a lot more in since so I'm not going to stand up and say 'you've no right to change the name' when as owner he does.
Whilst i don't therefore have pages of reasons to say why the name should be changed, conversely I've seen nothing in the way of any reasons as to why why we shouldn't other than tradition/heritage, though I entirely accept that that is a very good reason to leave things as they are given the emotional attachment and have to the name.
I'm not in favour of the name change, but then neither am I on the verge of a nervous breakdown about it. Now, some of you will shout that down as being a fence sitter/an aa arselicker yadda yadda yadda and I couldn't give a rats arse, as for the most part it'll be the same ones that have nothing else better to do. Some will no doubt also bang on about how this is some way makes me and others not a fan as we're not opposing a direct attack on our legacy and heritage (as they see it) Again, each to their own.
If AA wants to change the name, it's up to him. I don't personally mind HCT and I do not like HT as it sounds like a baseball team. However, the reality is that we're no longer a fluffy cuddly family group where we're all at the heart of everything (if we ever were), rather City, especially now we're in the prem, is a business. The Allams are not custodians or trustees for us, they own the club, run the club and can thus pretty much do what to want with it. We may not like it, indeed some may hate some of their plans, but sadly no matter what people do to oppose any plans are unlikely to succeed in changing AA's mind.
I hold my hand up and admit I've been wumming which, in fairness, has been out of order given the feelings some have in the subject. Most of the wumming, however, has been driven by the fact that there is a piss take amount of threads on this - surely 1 to debate and 1 covering what the opponents plan to do would suffice - and also that as soon as anyone has the audacity to say 'meh, I'm not too fussed', they get lambasted.
The whole subject has turned into a war of words between some on here. I for my part am going to try and stop the wumming. That'll be a lot easier if
A) all future threads could be merged so that the pages isn't filled with the same subject
B) the debates (many of which start off quite interesting) don't degenerate into petty name calling
Right, I'm off to watch Disney with the little uns before going out for the day. Have a good day all!
