Like I said previously, if it was only about money then he would have taken the Wolves job, they would have offered him a lot more than Rangers could ever. It is his affiliation with Rangers that has swayed him, not money.
Think that is slightly unfair, I get the impression that the Rangers job is one of the very few he would leave QPR for.
Don't think it would be that grim if Beale does go now. I think there are other potentially good Managers /Coaches out there. Critchley maybe one. I 'd have no problem with a Warburton return if he and Les are still talking to each other.....We also have Ramsey who could at the least fill in temporarily. It maybe more difficult to replace Balogun and / or Tim if Beale took them with him up there in January.
Have to say I found it odd that Gerrard left Rangers for Villa (who really aren’t bigger than Wolves given the money behind them). He had a much better chance of enhancing his reputation in Glasgow.
Seemingly the board weren't backing Gerrard at Rangers and his wife wanted him nearer to the family etc. I am sure he is thinking he has made a huge mistake as how will he get the Liverpool job now?
My biggest concern is Les and team aren’t putting good enough safeguards in place to protect our best assets. £1.5m clause for Beale is not doing anyone any favours. In football that’s nothing. We have to learn and start putting silly figures against our assets and if people are that desperate, they’ll still pay up. All very naive as usual.
Easy to say but someone as seemingly ambitious as Beale isn't going to join if you put an unrealistic buy out clause in his contract. Not that I know what a reasonable figure is.
Ultimately it will come down who is willing to come in with little/no January transfer budget and the prospect of losing players in the January window also. So whilst we maybe linked with someone like Mckenna at Ipswich it will be someone who isn't presently in a job, guaranteed Dim Tim will be linked!
I think these clauses are, in reality, of little effect. No one wants a staff member who wants to be elsewhere. Particularly in football, it generates a toxic environment, can impact on the whole organisation. Best let someone go, irrespective of what they might be barred from so doing on a contractual basis.
So £1m less for a manager who has no proven track record probably sounds about right, even though I can't stand Jones!
In excess of four million according to this ... Southampton pay Luton Town hefty compensation fee for Nathan Jones (telegraph.co.uk)
Yeah I saw that too, but went for the Sky Sports report of £2.5mil. Seemingly we got £4.5mil for Gerrard et al when they went to Villa
This does say £2.5m for Jones AND his assistants. It would be little compensation if he took our back room staff as well. I’m not sure how true that is, but I would be particularly upset if a manager of a few months took back room staff who had been with us for years. Their prerogative of course, but would still grate. Preserving any comments until we hear the final truth though.
At the end of the day there is being loyal and being stupid. However loyal we are in our working life I am sure most people have a dream job, and if this was suddenly offered to you you would take it regardless of your loyalty to your present employer. This doesn't make you a bad person.
It just seems a lot worse after what he said after the Wolves thing, but he could hardly have said, "I can't be the first the leave the ship, well except if Rangers come in for me, I really loved being there and would love to go back".
