Apologies
I should have littered my post with emojis to make it clear I was being slightly tongue in cheek ;)
I do sympathise with elderly people being scammed, I think the scammers should be dished out some serious pain...chosen by the scamees
Having said that I'm surprised many people posting on here bother with a landline

I can't be much help...but that's normal I'm afraid
Don't worry about it, no offence was taken!

You need a landline, but not always a telephone line rental ... I don't think

There is no telephone line rental. It's just line rental and it's the line your broadband and phone use. If you don't want calls then you don't pay for them, but you need a line for your broadband to come down. It's the same anywhere.

It's not right how they market it as some kind of separate, optional charge though. E.g. Broadband for £5 a month*

*For the first 3 months, then £20 a month. Plus line rental of £17.99 a month.
