In all fairness any 11 Norwich put out should comfortably beat Luton reserves.

As mentioned earlier a warm up game against a Prem side or decent Championship team would have been beneficial.
This squad is an unknown entity, they could get relegated or have a crack at promotion.

My heart says we will finish top 6 my head says we will struggle to score goals and sell any talent we have unearthed as soon as someone comes in for them.
There is a reason we were able to buy several players for a fraction of the price of Pritchard Murphys and Maddisson.

We are mediocre at best .

I believe without Gunn and Madders we would have been relegated.
Those two dragged us through 1-0 wins with moments of class.
That's why they were bought for a combined £40m approximately.

With the exception to the injury to Rhodes and the sloppiness in conceding a goal, somy VERY positive outcome from last night's game. The emergence of Aarons, Godfrey and Cantwell doesn't surprise me, as I've seen them play in Under 23 games - I KNOW I'll be wrong about someone in future and McLean seems to have slotted in perfectly. [HASHTAG]#onwardsandupwords[/HASHTAG]

PS - Any news on Rhodes??

PPS - Yes DD, I'm sure we did pay a loan fee and a fairly high salary to get Rhodes, but then we got TK on a free. [HASHTAG]#balances[/HASHTAG]

My gripe is that if we pay a hefty loan fee and wages that money may have been better spent on a permanent signing.
The very thought of coughing up 2 or £3m to loan Rhodes and pay his salary if he is sitting on our bench or just not very good as shown at Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough is concerning.

If he turns out to be great and scores for fun the only way we could afford to sign him permanently is if we get promoted.

Loans are usually for big teams to give the youth gametime or to offload expensive rubbish.
We managed to loan out Naismith for free and pay some of his wages and pay someone to dump their unwanted player on us pay all his wages plus a large chunk of his initial transfer price.
Seems pretty like a pretty crap deal.

Fair comment, but let's wait and see.

I think JR and TK are here because they are the ones DF wanted for the way we will play.
I think they both have something about them, just a weird arrangement to pay a chunk of I'm guessing about £2m plus his wages just for one season.
Can't see Rhodes fitting into the wage structure either.

I'll revisit this once he's played 10 or so games.

Yes, just read it and it shows the hard decisions DF has to make. Krul would not have signed on to sit on the bench. Remi would have been under huge pressure and some would have jumped on any mistake - there were those on here already doing so after early pre-season games. A full season loan to a League One side, perhaps Plymouth again (their keeper has broken his ankle) would allow him to develop his skills and press for a place next season.

I admire Farke's honesty in this and there is more of the same in his assessment of last season and the start to this one:

The news was good for Norwich City after scans confirmed on-loan striker Jordan Rhodes will be fit for the start of the new season.
Rhodes will miss Saturday’s friendly at Charlton, but should be ready to face Birmingham on August 4. [HASHTAG]#gotoutofjailfree[/HASHTAG]

Edit - Now what are you going to complain about DD??? :emoticon-0105-wink:

I really don't understand why when posters express concern all of a sudden people think the're on some sort of mission to destroy a player.

I may have missed something but I don't recall anyone on here expressing any more concern than the concern raised by DF in this article.

If we're not going to have different views on things and be prepared to discuss them, then there really is very little point in this forum.

If DF was confident in the young man's abilities, he wouldn't have brought Krul in.
Surely this suggests that those of us harbouring doubts about going into the season with Remi as number 1 were not that far wide of the mark.
Good post, Canario <ok>

I would have personally rather have signed Marriott for a reported 3-£5m on a 4 year contract than loan Rhodes for about 2-£3m on loan for 1 season .

Lets see who scores the most next season ?

If it's Rhodes them we can hope to pay probably about £5m on top of what we have spent already or get outbid by a rival.

If Marriot his value will double or even quadruple if he's as prolific as I believe he can be.

I can understand 'having concerns' or 'harbouring doubts' with a lot at stake, but it was more the name calling like ''butterfingers" and other denigrations based on scant evidence that I was referring to. Concerns are one thing, name calling is quite another.

DF had to make a tough call and he has done so and I'm ok with that. It may also be that Remi is not the type of keeper DF wants, playing the ball out and passing it on rather than kicking or bowling it out. The decision has been made now though and we can all move on.

We'll never know exactly, but I don't think the loan fee was as much as £2m. I'd be surprised if it's as much as £1m and probably half his wages, say £20k a week for 45 weeks and some add-ons for promotion, etc. I like Marriott, but I'd rather two established goalscorers in Rhodes and Pukki than gambling that Marriott will come good in the Championship for twice the money. Measure the comparison in goals per game time and I'm confident that Rhodes and Pukki will provide more goals than Marriott for far less money.

If we can't call professional sportsmen that are paid to play games for a living hurtful things like "butterfingers" without triggering each other then we need to get a thicker skin.

Clearly the "mistakes" from Matthews didn't go unnoticed and Farke addressed this by signing a quality keeper.

If the manager felt sorry for Remi so let him start the season in goal and kept conceding sloppy goals from mistakes then he may end up out of a job.

I don't support my team out of sympathy I want them to be a ruthless focussed cohesive unit that wins games .

I don't see this level of sympathy for McGovern spending most of his career with us on the bench but others get special treatment for some bizarre reason.
A successful team has players fighting for the shirt in every position, if they make too many errors or lose form someone else gets the chance.

Don't see many feeling sorry for Husband when Lewis stole his place at left back either.
