Goals from Srbeny & Pukki have drawn us level at 2-2. We're much the better side this half. Edit: Third goal again by Pukki who looks very lively. CITY (first half): Matthews; Marshall, Zimmermann, Klose, Husband; Trybull; Stiepermann, Leitner, McLean, Hernandez; Srbeny, CITY (second half): McGovern, Passlack, Zimmermann, Klose (Raggett 72), Husband (Arrons 72), McLean (Cantwell 72), Thompson, Stiepermann (Godfrey 72), Hernandez (Wildschut 72), Pukki, Srbeny (Rhodes 72).
So Tettey is out for 3 weeks, with Chicken Pox of all things. Interestingly, Oliveira apparently didn't travel because Farke knew getting the other strikers minutes was the priority. He's also behind in terms of pre-season, but it was interesting to see Farke come out with that line. You would have thought game-time with the U23's would have been an option?
Perhaps Nelson turned down that option DH. It's looking more and more like he'll be leaving. DF has worked hard to make sure all new players have 'good characters'. It may be that Oliveira doesn't match that criteria.
In fairness to Matthews, the first goal was in the first minute of the match with the defence playing 'statues'. The second was poor but the defence again was poor as well. Things improved after that and Matthews made some good saves. The standout players were Hernandez, Pukki and Trybull and Srbeny did well for our first goal against his old team. Early days yet, but Pukki could turn out to be a very good signing. Paddy Davitt had this to say: http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/davitt-verdict-pukki-holt-clone-1-5607988 Rhodes only had 20 minutes, so should get more against Union Berlin tomorrow. Added to that our U23s beat Paderborn U23s 2-1.
The goals we scored were good , the goals we conceded were terrible. As Rick said the first was in the first minute and caught napping but the second trickled in from outside the box. I don't think Matthews is ready to start the season as number 1 and McGovern is definitely not good enough. A premiership bench warmer on loan may be a sensible option. This forum is not all about saying how fabulous everything is sometimes we criticise.
Having watched a decent stream of the match thanks to Woodbine, it was very much a game of two halves. The first goal was through a ruck of players but the second goal was very poor for both Matthews and the defence. The second half was a complete transformation, however, and that could have been down to DF's half time 'talk'. http://www.pinkun.com/norwich-city/canaries-farke-word-of-warning-1-5607991 He seems very ready for the new season and determined to see that the players are as well.
I saw the whole thing too ,it's probably still up . We looked the better side and the opposition didn't really have many chances in the game, as I already pointed out the two conceded were very soft . It's only a friendly and the results don't really matter but the #1 position is something I will be interested in for the remainder of the friendlies. Let's hope Matthews plays a blinder next game.
That is the purpose of a Forum - 'A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.!!' I'm pretty sure that Matthews hasn't suddenly become a bad GK based on the evidence of one game - he got rave reviews during his loan at Plymouth, so let's at least wait until the end of the tour in Germany before hitting the 'panic' button, shall we??? SW/DF may well have plans in place to bring in a loanee GK and it's still just under 3 weeks until the season starts
Mattthews may turn out to be brilliant, at the moment we have him and McGovern competing for number 1. We tried McGovern and he was prone to stupid mistakes . I would rather bring in a safe pair of hands so if the unthinkable happens and Remi lets in loads of silly goals ,we have someone to replace him. If it's just McGovern and Matthews I see that as very risky.
Oxborough seems to have done well enough in the U23 game. It's also worth remembering that Matthews is 24 and had considerable experience at both Hamilton and Plymouth.
Going into last season with Gunn was on paper no less risky, he had less front line experience than Mathews. If early speculation about a possible keeper loan is anything to go by, im not sure if Matthew's is held in the same regard. I guess quite rightly, Gunn will have every chance of one day being Englands No1, I'm not sure Matthew's will reach such lofty heights. Bah!
JR got into the England squad and he was prone to a few howlers, more difficult for keepers, their mistakes usually end up in the net
You could argue that last season with Gunn was more of a risk as I think I’m right in saying we were his first opportunity on loan for first team football. On Facebook someone who I can only presume was at the game said the 2nd goal took a massive deflection. I can’t see it on the video?
On the stream the goal was shown from directly behind and there did seem to be a bobble. Looking at the goals clip, there were at least two bounces before it reached Matthews. It was 30° and the pitch seemed rock hard.
