That's such an extraordinarily cheap price that there are really only two possibilities:

- That is the price received by Gao, with the purchasers clearing our debt at the same time. That would mean that the total commitment would be £200-£230m, which is within the range for an established PL side with few resources beyond being an established PL side. It would mean that Gao is taking a haircut of tens of millions in order to move the club.

- It's utter nonsense. This is unfortunately the most likely option.

For those thinking is can't be true due to the seemingly low price, don't forget we have a £70m (ish) loan to repay so whoever buys the club will also essentially be buying to liability of the £70m debt.

So price wise it could actually be about right - although the fact it has been posted on a random web forum is a but of an indicator that it *might* not be true!

I was just about to mention that I'm sure he's posted here before. Don't think the tags work though.
No, for some strange reason tagging doesn’t work if you’re a mod. I just use it as it’s the easiest way to get a name right!

If we’re being sold so cheaply then any old pauper can just come in and buy us, with the end result being the same as now if they have no money.

As mentioned - I am not sure it is a cheap price given our debt and losses

And the price paid doesn’t automatically indicate that the person buying is “a pauper”.

Rich people don’t tend to overpay for things

Granted that logic becomes slightly skewed when it comes to football ownership that is quite likely to lose them money unless you can be like Leeds and buy a sleeping giant cheaply and get them promoted. And then sell before too many years in the PL

Like Kat did with us?

Yes, her family bought cheap and sold after a couple of years in the PL.
Yes - I mentioned that as an exception to people making money as football owners

One that doesn’t apply to us right now

There are fears on Saintsweb about the owners being a US Hedge fund. They could be but it really doesn’t seem like the kind of investment they would make

But carrying on that logic - who would actually buy us realistically. But the same is true for most clubs and owners really

We are probably one of the least attractive PL teams really, small fan base, small stadium, poor playing squad. Only thing we have going for us is the reputation of the academy and training facilities, but most clubs now have excellent facilities.

Still as you say buying a football club is not a money making venture, especially a PL one. It is a plaything for the mega rich, hopefully we get one of the richest

I also feel that their group has sort of grown beyond naming rights stuff. Initially there was a bit of attention grabbing about the renaming. With the Austrian league and a crap German team you can sort of get it. In the PL you’d think they’d have enough eyeballs from shirt sponsorship and stadium naming rights. Red Bull St Mary’s Stadium anyone?

Wasn't it the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium initially? Not that I'm a fan of sponsors naming grounds.

:1980_boogie_down::1980_boogie_down:The other day, I sent a tweet to a guy who owns several businesses, who wants to buy the Calgary Flames, who have been valued at $680M. I asked him if he had any interest in buying Saints!
Well look at this, it worked.
