Looks like the shooter's opposition to Kirk was left wing. Best outcome would have been if he was similar to the two guys who tried to get Trump, a crazy and a Republican disaffected with Trumpism. Trump's never really successfully mythologized them as left wing, that will likely change now.

More seriously though, people really don't seem to be able to decide if he was actually left wing or a Groyper.
The biggest factor in this from my reading seems to be that he was utterly terminally online.
All the stuff on the bullet casings are Groyper stuff. It's pretty clearly that rather than left wing stuff.
I actually think this is little to do with (actual) politics, and lots to do with the poison that the dark corners of the internet can infect people with.

Trump was just asked about the shooter and changed the subject to talk about his new ballroom. His entire family was MAGA, according to his grandma. The right are trying to say college made him a lefty - but he dropped out after one semester. He sounds like a 4chan loon, for sure.
