It’s bad writing, but it’s an opinion piece from one of their online team, who is sharing her personal feeling. I don’t think it’s a good piece, I would question the point of the digital team running it, but it’s also worth pointing out that the BBC and BBC News are run as two separate organisations. The BBC is one of the very few organisations that can and will write observational or critical pieces about itself, including opinion pieces from their team, and for that they should be applauded.

As I say though, this is crap writing.

EDIT: what I’m saying is, this piece doesn’t, and isn’t meant to, be something reflecting the view of the corporation. It’s the personal view of Katie whatsherface, so I wouldn’t get too bothered by it.
But it's on the BBC news homepage. It's meant to be a reliable source for information.

Understood, and as I said, it's not something I would have put there (largely because it's written dreadfully), but they've given the opportunity for their Culture person to have her opinion on it. It's not the news story itself.

For what it's worth, Naja (who is great) who used to be the BBC Digital News editor, has recently left. Not sure if it's her replacement that has decided to put those kind of opinion pieces on the front page. Who knows. But it's not meant to be the 'news'/reporting piece that represents anything other than that person's opinion (which you may or may not agree with).

Labour hoping to finalise some deals to improve EU relations and access, which will undoubtedly be called as a a sellout by the usual suspects.
On the downside, if the Brits are given access to the E gates at borders I will lose pretty much the only Brexit benefit I have been given, which is not queuing up with them because of my residency status in Spain.

Here’s a very good take on the deal Labour has achieved with the EU and it includes one of the best descriptions of Farage I have heard when James refers to him as the “arsonist sitting around the corner with his zippo lighter”.

Can't wait to see our media trash any deal from all angles despite basically being a necessity, and for Reform to be given free reign to criticize everything with no accountability despite their leader being the cause of a lot of the issues.

Just sitting down after eating a bowl of homemade vegetable pansit and popped on line.

I think this is common sense by Starmer. Just think that the tide is now turning and this is the first step towards joining the EU.

The BBC vox pop in Radio 4 was fascinating...the people in oppposition tended to be elderly and poorly informed with no serious response to the argument.

I agree with the comment about Farage standing by with his box of matches and think he will make hay about this. He has already posed with a photo of a fish ! I just wonder if Starmer's move will prove Farage wrong . My guess is that this will ultimstely undermine Farage.

This is the same Farage who, when he was an MEP and a member of the EU Fisheries Committee, attended just one meeting out of a possible 42. That’s how much he actually cares about Britain’s fishermen and women.

So my understanding is that the fishing deal will give the same advantages, or otherwise, that the Norwegians enjoy; who describe their fishing industry as a major contributor to their economy ...
It extends the current deal, which the fisher-folk voted for in huge numbers, by 12 years, but also makes massive improvements to the ability of those fisher-folk to actually sell their fish, rather than letting it rot.

Some extracts from the linked article below https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-eu-uk-fisheries-fishing-b2753650.html
"Critics have branded Keir Starmer’s fishing deal with the EU “a horror show” for the industry after he granted European trawler fleets 12 years of access to UK waters.
The roll over of the existing fisheries deal to 2038 will benefit the British fishing industry, the prime minister has claimed, by allowing the sale of fish caught in UK waters to be sold in the EU without veterinary checks, removing a costly post-Brexit barrier.
Sir Keir has also unveiled a £360m fund to support fishing communities and modernise the British fishing fleet."

"UK's seafood exports down by 26% since Brexit
Despite claims that the fishing industry was stifled by the EU, seafood exports are down by 118,000 tonnes per year compared to 2019."

"The core elements remain unchanged from the Conservatives’ post-Brexit fisheries deal, first implemented in 2020, and continues to allow EU fishermen access to UK waters."

Starmer’s EU reset triggers outbreak of Brexit derangement syndrome

Looking forward to PMQs Wednesday 12pm https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Commons

Just shows how absolutely cooked our media and social media is.

This is the mildest of the mild reasonable and common sense action that in no way undermines Brexit and we are just being spammed with ‘BETRAYAL’ ‘SURRENDER’ ‘CAPITULATION’ from every direction.

No wonder that anyone who doesn’t really follow politics thinks we are in the midst of a disaster, being force fed made up hysterical bollocks 24/7.

It is only rabid Brexiters who think leaving the EU has worked. The realisation amongst most people is that it has achieved nothing but chaos and that immigration had nothing to do with our membership.

Maybe, but the fact that the Daily Mail is the UKs best selling newspaper should alert you to the fact that there are large numbers of frightened angry 'anti-wokeists' who are terrified of European culture (whatever that even is).

I want to see more of this from Starmer and all Labour MPs. They have to keep putting it out there that Farage is anti NHS, anti worker and unpatriotic. Keep on telling the truth and it might get heard.

KEIR Starmer slammed Nigel Farage last night, saying he doesn’t have a patriotic bone in his body.

The PM told backbenchers Mr Farage’s Reform are Labour’s main rivals at the next election.

And in a speech to the Parliamentary Labour Party, he vowed: “We will take the fight to him.”

He branded Mr Farage: “A state-slashing, NHS-privatising, Putin apologist without a single patriotic bone in his body.”

Workers

The PM also referred to a notorious video in which Mr Farage said car giant Jaguar “deserves” to go bust because he didn’t like an advert for the firm.

He said: “Every opportunity he has had in this Parliament to back working people, he’s voted against. Telling the workers at Jaguar Land Rover they deserve to go bust.”

Pointing to successes including JLR being protected by a US trade deal, rising wages, falling waiting lists and school breakfast clubs, he added: “Nigel Farage stands for absolutely none of this.”

Labour, Lib Dems, Greens and others opposed to Reform and Reform lite AKA the tories, need to aggressively point out the lies, mis/disinformation and lack of ability of the right.

They do, but they face an uphill struggle getting that message across, with much of the UK media (including BBC News) happy to grant Farage a soft ride, while being unwilling to give Labout a scrap of favourable coverage

Good example of something;

BBC Politics Live today doesn't have a Conservative rep, they have replaced them with Reform UK.

There is no Conservative rep, no Lib Dem rep, no SNP rep.

Only Labour and Reform UK.

Shows how the BBC are actively promoting Reform.
