With 1st April being the catalyst for a variety of price hikes in the UK, and having been appalled at the predicted annual costs in the Uk, I have had a look at the charges for my utilities in Spain, for the past 6 months.
For comparison purposes, my heating and oven (I do a LOT of baking) is electric and my hot water and hob uses gas.
Electric €297.80
Water €155.55
Gas €82.08.
With regards to heating, I benefit from having windows that face south and west, so I can utilise the winter sun to alleviate some of the cold weather but we’ve also had a horrible 3 week spell of wet weather and overcast skies, which meant using more heating. The windows will count against me in the summer, as I will use more aircon.
Water charges, in a country that often has water shortages, has barely changed over the last decade.
I use bottled gas and have 3 bottles, so when I I start using my last bottle, I buy 2 new refills. Each bottle lasts for about 4-5 weeks and that’s with me taking a shower every day.
I hope this doesn’t depress too many of you but it helps to highlight that the utility companies, in the UK, are taking the piss.
