It does sound like I posted that.

When I was a teenager I used to go out with my mate Conrad to look for hoopoes.

The first 2 times I'm Qatar I never saw them but my partner was first to see one. I was elated but our taxi driver thought I was mad. The publicity on the airline TV when you land shows a hoopoe flying around a shopping mall.

There is a book called 'The Conference of the Birds' by a 12th century Sufi poet called Attar which features a hoopoe as the main character and is something I found to be profound.

Spending my holidays in Qatar over the last few years was an eye opener. The Palestinian flag was everywhere and buildings were illuminated in the colours too. ( Although the thing that made thr biggest impression on me was seeing a hoopoe for the first time after waiting over 40 years to see one !)

Great non-Islamic example

Considering Qatar have been sending millions of dollars to Hamas over the years, they’re not exactly bastions of neutrality.

I’d like to think they would have condemned Hamas for spending the millions sent on building underground tunnels and arming themselves to start a war they had little chance of winning, but it seems clear that this is all about propaganda on the international stage and the people of Gaza are the pawns

Spotted this on my news feed today.

The dictatorial president of Rwanda, right, has carried out a Putin-style landgrab of neighbouring Congo.

Rebel forces backed by Paul Kagame have seized control of an area rich in gold and other resources, killing several UN peacekeepers in the process.

Just over a year ago the Tories declared that Rwanda was a “safe country”. Perhaps that explains why they have been so reluctant to condemn Kagame’s act of aggression.
 
I watched a good video on YouTube, where some farmers at a rally were putting forward their concerns about inheritance taxes.
What came out of it, quite strongly, is that they recognise that Farage is only speaking out in support of them in order to advance his own political interests and not because he truly cares about them.
They also accepted that Brexit had damaged them.
The farmers agreed that the inheritance tax was fair, when aimed at those people who bought agricultural land for tax avoidance purposes but want the government to recognise that selling off land to pay said tax weakens the farmers’ ability to earn enough money and provide food/produce for the country.
And, in what shows how duplicitous the media can be in promoting Farage, a farmer in the Sky News studio pointed out that the video they showed of Farage making a speech was only being watched by 5 (FIVE) people.
Maybe the media should be compelled to show things like this, in the interest of balance.

The Rwanda deal was actually a really good idea and should not have been scrapped. It us just that it should have been used to deport the racist bigots who protected after the atrocity in Southport. Plus Oswaldorama although I would let him keep his laptop so that he can continue to amuse us.<cheers>
 
Last night Trump tweeted that you cannot break the law if you are doing what is best for the country. This guy is paving the way for a lovely dictatorship!
 
Musk also tweeted a comment about invading the UK to save us from Starmer.

Just cannot see this going unchecked and feel that Trump and his ilk will be reined in. Not quite sure how but can see rhe courts being the first to intervene

On Thursday a man who burned the Quran outside the Turkish embassy in London in a protest against the Turkish president was attacked by a knife wielding attacker
Fortunately the attacker stopped short of stabbing the man after the man fell to the floor after avoiding several slashes, but did proceed to kick and spit at the man. A passing deliveroo rider also kicked the man.

The man who burned the Quran appeared in court yesterday charged with religiously motivated harassment. The attacker will appear in court tomorrow.

It’s little wonder the UKs free speech rules come under such close scrutiny from the US.

No sympathy for this guy tbh. Burning the Quran doesn’t justify murder or violent assault of course, but it is a deliberate provocation, wtf did he expect? As for the US, they can worry about themselves.

I think that Putin and Trump are conspiring to divide up Ukraine. Russia will take the land and America the resources. There will also be some sort of deal between Russia and the US that benefits the American economy. I can see Trump considering a rampant Russia diminishing the power of the EU and him encouraging this.
